Two weeks later, all I was reduced to was sitting in my double bed with a plaster boot. I ate my meals with Liam in my room and every night he would help me get ready for bed. I felt sorry for him. I know that me adores looking after me but this is different. I'm an invalid. And Liam is forced to look after me.
I sat up in bed. My sheets were white along with my clothes. It made me feel ill for I felt like I was in a hospital room. I didn't go to the hospital which I thank God for. They fitted the boot there in the van.
Anne's death was unnecesary. It was my fault. Hell it was more than that. Shit I killed the girl. But what made me feel worse is that all it took was a small... tiny... ludicrous amount... of bleach... in a cup. Would only a small amount really kill her? Something is telling me that I'm not the murderer.
My concentration was broken my Liam entering the room. "Hey" he whispered. He smiled and brought in a pile of wrapped gifts. I raised an eyebrow at him and he giggled. "There aren't the only ones Laurie" I cocked my head to the side as he sat on the bed. "There are all the get well presents for you that all your friends have sent you." He handed me a pile of cards. His smiled dropped a tad as he passed me a letter.
It was different from the others for the envelope was different and diddn't have my name on it in fancy writing.
"What is it?" i asked Liam.
"It's a letter" he said.
"I can see that Liam" I giggled.
"Open it" he egged me on.
"Fine" I sighed. I opened it with caution as not to rip the paper. I opened the folded lined paper and scanned the letter. I immedeatly looked for who it was from. My face fell to emptyness. "What's wrong?" Liam asked. I didn't answer. My cheeks scorched and my face twitched. "Nothing" I chuckled "junk mail" I screwed up the letter and threw it aside. Liam read the envelope to see who it was from. He folded up the envelope and placed it in his pocket.
I started with the cards. The first was in a viridian envelope and my name was in a controlled curly font. Rayegen. I knew it. I opened the card and a Waterstones 50% off voucher fell out. He knew how much I love reading. Thoughtfull little bugger. Liam handed me annother and proceeded to read Rayegens. He chuckled at the message that Rayegen left:
"Hey Laurie. Hope you get better soon! I'd kiss your wound but we both know who's job that is ;)"
The next was in a crimson envelope. My name was in capitals and a little messy. When I opened it I found a joke card. It was a picture of a carrot running away from a peeler and there was a greater behind the corner. The caption was:
The carrot had dodged the peeler,
But greater danger was lurking around the corner.
Liam and I shared a rather raucous laugh about it and continued to read the cards. Notes, vouchers, coupons and drawings were falling out of the cards and the presents were all chocolates, art sets and someone gave me a bird box which was rather fascinating. Liam handed me another present. "It's from me" he smiled. I smiled back,
"Oh Liam you didn't have to get me anything. You mothering me is the best present I could have from you" I mentally slapped my wrist. Oh god what if he gets the wrong idea? He giggled. "No I insist open it" He clapped his hands together. Whew!
I unwrapped the golden paper and found something amazing. I gasped at this wonderful gift he had given me. It was a pair of dazzling black ballet shoes with small goose feathers. With my mouth open I looked at him. Then the shoes. Then him. He shrugged and smiled. I threw myself at him and hugged him tightly.
