Liam and I reached the ruins. No time to sit and marvel but, I can say that the design seemed roman, intricate patteredn pillars and circular hallways and corridors destroyed. We found a narrow walk way which we went down. The dogs were almost upon us, I suddenly decided to hide behind a pillar and wrenched Liam with me. Staying absolutely still, the lava dogs stopped behind the pillar. Tears were cascading down my cheek, but I had to stay quiet.
Then suddenly Liam poked his head out to face the dog. I tried to pull him back but nothing happened. I poked my head out slightly to see. Liam was staring straight into the eyes of the dog. The dog didn't seem to make a reaction. Liam was almost nose to nose with the dog, staring straight into the eyes. I felt heat on the back of my leg. As it got hotter I turned around.
The other dog was skulking around next to me. I was too frightened to move anymore. But the dog didn't even notice I was there. Then I had an idea. I plucked up a pebble from nearby and threw it a few feet. The dogd immediately followed the sound and ran off. I knew it!
"What was that for?" Liam asked when he stood up. I ran over to him and pulled him back behind the piller. "Shut up!" I hushed him. He still made a confused face but he obeyed. "Didn't you notice how they didn't see us?" I whispered. "Why are we whispering?" Liam joined. I smiled and waited until the dogs were out of sight. "They're blind!" I said, "Their hearing is what they rely on." Liam widened his eyes in agreement. We spied downwards the hall once more to check on the dogs. They were nothing more than a glow in the distance.
Liam walked out slightly and looked around. "Where are we?" I asked myself as I walked around. I came across a broken fountain shaped like a swan calling to the skies. What confused me was, I could hear the water flowing, but no water flowed. Liam walked over and tossed a coin in the fountain. There was no water, only a terribly murky, smoggy smoke. We peered in to watch the spooky gap from the falling coin close up. A few seconds later something hit me on the head from the sky. Liam picked it up and put it in his pocket.
"Was that your coin?" I asked. "Yes." He concluded. "Hey you knew that would happen!" I slapped his arm. He giggled and held me tightly.
Liam's POV
We decided to explore around us to see If I could find anything I recognised. I have never been to this place in my dreams before. The raven was the one who chased me before but that was the first I had ever seen of those dogs. We came across a large wall of fog blocking our way. "Stay here" I said to Laurie, I didn't want him walking into that fog. As I walked closer I could feel an unsettling vibration uttering from the surface. I wanted to touch it but something was telling me not to. Anything could happen if I did.
I turned around to Laurie. He was shivvering from terror. I smiled at him to make sure he wasn't completley afraid of this place. I created this place, and I will protect him from it. My hand roamed around ina circular motion to feel the smoke; it felt almost like a tender bubble ready to pop. Reluctanty I placed my hand inside the smoke very slowly, as I did the smoke began to break away like snow upon a window ledge. A hoarse growl bellowed through the wind like a distorted song of my deepest, darkest fears.
Laurie shivered and ran towards me, afraid. "We can walk through I think." I turned to Laurie who was trembling so much. I knelt down and readied my arms, "Stay close to me" I said, "get on my back." Laurie looked at me like a had two heads. I made a face to show him I was deadly serious. He reluctantly obeyed and settled himself on my back. Lifting him up... wow he's a light lad! Lifting him up we began to walk through the fog. Laurie whimpered and burried his face in my shoulders, he was really scared.
The fog had the strength of a bodybuilder, thrusting us backwards and making our walk even more difficult. A magnificent weight of force contracted and almost knocked me off my feet. Laurie held on very tightly and used me as a shield from the blast. After a minute or two the fog began to clear. I could see faint sillhouettes of crude shapes and buildings of somesorts. I was scared to push my head through, what if I got stuck half way? The strength intensified and the fog tried it's very best to stop me getting through. With all my might and determination I crashed through the thick power and made it.
