Liam's POV
Huh, funny, now I know how Laurie feels: waking up all the time to the ceiling, regardless of any circumstance. It wasn't his ceiling. After the debacle at our house we moved in with Rayegan and Aldfrith until repairs are made. I narrowly managed sufficient payment for the builders. Luckily it was only a case of broken furniture and torn supports. I bought a few more pieces of furniture out of our savings from my parents, but I have no idea when we can go back there.
Laurie was asleep with his head on my chest. He was a quiet sleeper, and a cute one. He looked like a little puppy! I ran my fingers through his hair, admiring the shine it gave off. I didn't want to heckle Laurie with questions about anything right now. Anything confrontational or conflicting may set him off, so we'll take it easy now.
College was supposed to start the next day, however due to, unpleasant developements, namely Laurie falling slightly comatose, there would be a likelihood of us not attending. I kissed him gently and rested my head on his.
Aldfrith came in quietly, and I put my finger to my lips to make sure he was quiet. We were in the spare bedroom under the covers, all snuggled and warm. Aldfrith came in slowly and shut the door behind him. He came over watching Laurie sleep so gently.
"How's he doing?" he asked, not taking his eyes off Laurie.
"His breathing is calmer now, that's a good sign." I replied.
He sat on the side of the bed gently and faced me. "Rayegan has gone back to collect your post for today."
"I doubt any would come." I said in response. I was very tired, and I didn't care about what happened yesterday. However I'm sure that Aldfrith would tell me. And he did.
"Liam, frankly i'm going to have to tell you about yesterday; what happened." he began. Laurie began to stir and I faced Aldfrith, ready to recieve.
"Last night: I can only explain as a breakthrough. We, Rayegan and I, have proved that the lipstick that Laurie found has some connection to the demon, and your various abilities. Namely your abilities to share dreams with others." I only nodded slowly, for I've seen enough to question his logic.
"But I realised something yesterday. That unearthly attack was meant for Laurie. It spared all of us but didn't let Laurie down the stairs. And additionally, when Rayegan broke the glass wall, Laurie and even you, seemed to change, for a split second, you two were entirely different, like Gods you were, somehow you seemed to have power." He faced the window.
"Aldfrith?" I began, "I'm not going to question you about what has happened recently. I don't want to speak of this ever again. All this news and new developments have made Laurie exhausted and confused. I don't want this for him. I don't mean to be confrontational Aldfrith, but I believe it would be better for all of us if we forget about all this." I had made up my mind. Laurie had spent almost the entire time since, sleeping, and slipping in and out of consciousness and murmuring things about what he had seen. I want him to be well for his future.
Just then Laurie began to toss and turn, and his eyes began to open. Aldfrith leaned over to have a look.
"Laurie?" he called, "Are you okay?" I shook Laurie slightly to see if he will wake up. He groaned slightly and looked me in the eyes. "Hello sleepy-head." I said to him. Well he was one. It was like watching a tiny flower bud open slowly into the most adorable little blossom.
"Liam?" he groaned at me. "Am I alive?" a second groan. I couldn't help giggling. I cuddled him closer and kissed him on his forehead. "Of course you are my little munchkin!" I tittered. I don't know why I called him munchkin, he's very tall.
"You should not waste time you two," Aldfrith made to leave the room, "up and about, make sure you have everything ready for when you go to college." And he shut the door.
Then Laurie began to panic, "Oh my God Liam, college!" he grunted. I calmed him down by sitting him up right, he doesn't need to worry. "Don't panic Laurie, because of your comatose state, we warned the college that we might not be attending on the first day," Laurie began to get cross, "but! They said it was fine, because we weren't the only ones to warn them about missing students." The college had already been warned of several missing students due to sickness.
I got up and lifted Laurie to sit up properly. He sat there with his head down, and then he stretched with a big bagpuss yawn. I wondered if he needed help, "Need any help getting up?" I asked. But he looked at me with a rather smug face. "I wasn't hit by a bus Liam." Witty little puppy he was.
He managed to stand and waddle out of the room into the living room. Aldfrith served us tea and Laurie curled up in a ball with his tea.
"Hey Liam?" Laurie caught my attention and I faced him, "about yesterday?" He began but I just didn't want him fussing.
"Laurie, don't: no talking about yesterday, we will put it behind us and forget." I said assertively. Laurie nodded and turned away, but I could hear him mumbling, 'It's a little hard to forget something like that.'
Just then Rayegan came through the door, "I'm home big boys!" he bellowed, "And I bring good tidings!" Laurie beamed, "Oh you brought something?" I answered him, "He collected our post." Laurie smiled, "Oh how nice."
Rayegan came in with a wad full of letters. He was flicking through them until his face lit up. He looked at Laurie and then at me with his big cat smile. "There are some addressed to you two." he said. Of course they'd be addressed to us. We live there. He handed the two letters to us. Laurie was the first to open his. His face was all excited, the thought of getting a letter was quite fun for him. But his face then turned pale and his eyes opened wide.
Aldfrith looked at Laurie at his level, "Is something wrong Laurie?" he asked. Laurie did not answer, his face just grew more and more shocked. I placed my hand on his shoulder slowly, and as I touched it, Laurie jumped convulsively. "What is it?" I asked.
Eventually Laurie spoke, "It's an acceptance letter from Central Sussex College."
