After school I rushed home, expecting to find lots of nice Facebook posts on my wall and maybe even a few Instagram shout-outs. But when I opened the apps, there was nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I know social media is something stupid to get upset about, but the lack of posts really hurt my feelings. I had friends and lots of people that cared about me. But apparently none of them cared enough to make one itty bitty post.
Sighing, I put my phone on my desk and started my homework. Even if it was my birthday, I knew I should get a head start.
About ten minutes into my math homework, I got a call from Sprinkles, the caterers I'd ordered from. "Hello, this is Mary. May I speak with Grace Dylan, please?"
"This is she," I replied in a sophisticated tone.
"Are you the one that ordered 200 cupcakes for your sweet sixteen?"
"I'm sorry...200? I only ordered twenty."
"I don't think so, dear. The order you placed says 200."
"That can't be right!" I protested. "I specifically remember writing 20!"
"Well, I'm sorry, but you're getting 200 cupcakes tonight at seven. We don't have anything else to do with them."
"That's your problem! Can't you just give me twenty?"
"No, because they all have little 16's on them," she told me, matter-of-factly.
"Ugh," I groaned.
Mary hung up the phone and I stared at mine in disbelief. Two hundred cupcakes?! What was I going to do with all of them? I'd only invited twenty people to the party!
This was a disaster.
