The walk to the dining hall was quite for us, even with the passing of a few elves performing various tasks; all kept a wide berth with silent stares while crossing our path. Their fear was a taught one and in their minds rightly placed; throughout history a Firron was 'unpredictable' when not chained to a bloodline. My heart grew heavier with each passage through open courtyards and halls, for one of the first times in my adult life I had fear creeping throughout my body, fear of the uncertain future, fear of our failure, fear of the Blood cycle, fear of losing a pack member and fear of not being strong enough for what might come. So absorbed in my thoughts I barely registered Lord Elrond's steps fall silent, instinctively my curious nature turned my body towards him breaking my thoughts, and my eyes re-evaluated the room we were currently before. A circular room with murals on every wall showed the War of the Last Alliance and in the center stood a statue with the very blade that ended Sauron's life along with my mother's.
"This blade is a beacon of light for many who remember that time," Lord Elrond spoke, "those who were yet to be born it is a sign of victory, but for you and I," his face turned towards me as I saw him reliving my mother perish after the blade was swung, "we lost a dear friend and a mother. Lyreen was the strongest Firron I have ever known, not only in strength but in heart, being strong enough to combat Sauron's bond to deliver you in secret and fearless enough to forget even she did so, therefore hiding your existence from him." His face remained impassive but his eyes grew strong, "You are her child Firron, her strength flows through you and the unbeatable spirit that lives in all Firrons is in your very blood. Take heart, do not let fear overcome your body, face it, laugh at it, and do not let it defeat you! You cannot afford the cost that would be paid for being uncertain, now is the time to let your doubt go. Trust in your heart, find a light so bright that the shadows clinging there take flight." His words reached my ears but the cords on my heart did not lessen, looking away from Lord Elrond I wondered if I could be as strong as my mother, as if my head was searching for what my heart needed my eyes scanning a nearby mural rested on the sight of her. Depicting a bloodied ground with numerous bodies and pieces of various broken weapons shattered and scattered like they were made of glass stood my mother, gleaming with blood and mixing with the shadows as she was in the middle of a Padahall. Her eyes were a pool of darkness, not glossy or alive, but purely dead a vast emptiness knowing only to inflict pain and mass destruction, this is what my mother became to hide me. She was strong...fearless.
"You will know where to find true strength, it is a journey that you have to start if you every want to know the ending." Lord Elrond spoke after a silent minute of thought. His hands reach up and grasp my large head turning it towards him, "Do not fear what has not come to pass yet, live in the here and now with every fiber of your being, fight with all your might and everything you strive for will be accomplished." He was right, this moment of weakness needed to be over, I would face every moment with conviction and trust that fate would deal me a fair hand.
"Thank you father, I'm ready to face what is to come," I gave him a small lick on his face, "one step at a time." Nodding he took a step back into the hallway, "We have taken long enough; we must now make haste for your pack is waiting."
Quickly we continued towards the dining hall where my new companions all sat, patiently awaiting our arrival. Seated at a low placed oval table all nine companions talked among themselves; Aragon was speaking with three of the small hobbits, Frodo and Gandalf shared memories of the shire with Boromir while the elf, Legolas, and dwarf, Gimli, exchanged quick glances at each other while trying to keep with the various conversations. All voices quieted and eyes turned towards the pair of us as we made our entrance, food that was interminably dispersed throughout the table was almost all eaten.
