Sitting in the house Aphmau gave you, looking out the window, you have plenty of time to think about all the questions nagging you. You know why your father ran away, but why didn't he take you with him? You bury yourself so deep into your thoughts, that you block everyone else out, including the people in the room with you, discussing plans. You know they just asked you a question, but you ignore it, not wanting to be distracted.

"Y/N, we need you in this discussion." You close your eyes, and block it out again.

"Y/N..." Aphmau taps you in the shoulder. "Y/N!"

"What is so important that you have to call me every ten seconds!?" You snap, and glare at her. The anger builds up in you, and you have to take a deep breath. In recent months, you've experienced odd bouts of anger, especially against Aphmau. You hoped signing up to be a guard would help, but it only improved slightly.

"Y/N, as one of my most trusted guards, I do need you present in this conversation." You sigh.

"Okay, what is it?" You mumble.

"Okay, so we were just discussing the secret passage we were going to put in before we set off-" You cut Aphmau off.

"No! Don't make that!" Aphmau seems startled, guards don't talk to her like that.

"And why is that, Y/N?" She glares at you.

"Remember, when I was a spy, I told Zane that information." You say, wincing at Aphmau's look. In the past months, you've been drifting apart. Your heart stings at the loss of friendship.

"Y/N," she starts cautiously. "Ever since you disappeared for two weeks, you haven't been the same. Are you sick or something?"

"I'm fine." You say curtly. "Nothing happened in those weeks. I just camped out outside for a couple days, I needed a break."

That couldn't be farther than the truth. In fact, you stepped outside the walls for a moment of fresh air to clear your head. The next thing you know, you're in excruciating pain. And then, you were back in Phoenix Drop. You didn't tell anyone about that though. They all think you just hid outside the walls for a while.

Aphmau nods sadly, and turns back to the others. Laurance, Garroth and Dante state their opinions, and the meeting ends. You and the other guards follow Garroth back to the guard tower. Everyone checks which path they'll patrol with Garroth, but before you can go, Laurance stops you.

"Mind if I talk to you in private for a moment?" He asks. You groan, you'll probably get another talk about how un-friendly you've been recently, but you still follow. He leads you into the woods for a moment, and then sits onto a frozen tree stump.

"Y/N, I love you, but you haven't been the same person recently..." He says.

"I don't really care. I love you too, and that's all I want. Nothing else matters anymore."

"Everything matters, Y/N. I hate the way you yell at everyone now, even me."

"Well, some things change, Laurance." With that, you leave to go patrol.
