The exams passed smoothly away and soon it was the summer’s holyday. She was sitting at the teachers table in the Great Hall, thinking about the summer, but mostly the dark Lord. She was staring into the air and Dumbledore stood up from his seat. Wishing everyone a safe journey home and saying goodbye to the students in their senior year. After that he gave out the house cup.
During the dinner she was completely silent. She wandered where she would be staying during the summer. She knew she couldn’t stay at Hogwarts, that would be too much to ask. Luckily she didn’t need to think about it for long because Snape asked her only a few hours later if she wanted to stay with him. “Thank you Severus.” She replied with a smile playing in the corner of her mouth.
Snape and Elizabeth decided to walk to Hogsmeade and then apparate from there. Elizabeth took with her what she thought was necessary for the summers holyday and let the rest stay behind. It was a peaceful silence, without all the noise the students made. But Elizabeth couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that she was almost certain Snape hid something from her. “ What’s on your mind?” He asked after a while of silence. For a split of a second she wanted to confront him, but instead she said. “Don’t worry about it.” She smiled and took his hand, with a crack they were gone.
Snape’s house looked just as what he had left it. “I am going to do something with it…soon.” He mumbled, but she knew he was never going to do it. He opened the door for her and she entered. It was like they had only left yesterday or they could have left ten years ago, it still smelled the same. But somehow she felt safe. Maybe not as much as when they were at Hogwarts, but almost just as much.
With a wave of her wand food was beginning to prepare itself, Snape had to smile by the fact that she had bothered to learn the spell. She tried to ignore it, but had to smile herself. “Pancakes?” She asked accepting his cloak and hanging it up together with hers. He didn’t answer, but she knew he was satisfied with her. It wasn’t like she was going to become this housewife, like Mrs. Weasley. Not that she had anything against the witch.
“Come on, let’s go to bed.” She grinned dragging him along. With a light chuckle he picked her up and carried her upstairs. “I am impressed.” She mumbled, kissing him.
A few weeks passed by and things were wonderful. They were sitting by the kitchen table, eating a black turkey. Elizabeth had experienced a dream that she had lost her wand and was starving from hunger. She was going to prove herself wrong that she would survive without it, and began preparing a meal. When she went out to the store she had bought way to much food and then burned it later. Snape even had to stop the fire, before it would spread. “mm… you have skills I see.” He said, taking a bite of the turkey that brought tears in his eyes because it tasted so badly. “I know…who needs a wand really?” She said trying to hold her pride and took another bite. But it was too burned, she tried to hold it in and her eyes became red and then watery, forcing herself to eat it. Snape had to hold himself from laughing and took a bite of her overcooked groceries.
“Oh God…” She mumbled, cracking first. She ran for the sink and spit it out. Gulping down tons of water, trying to get the taste away. “That is so disgusting.” She said between gulps. Snape got up and cleaned it up, laying every dish in the sink. “You are completely lost without your wand Elizabeth.” He said kissing her cheek. “No I’m not!” She said in denial, but all Snape had to do was bring up the burned turkey again and she felt her cheeks go slightly red. It wasn’t even thanks giving.
“Look I have a few chores to do, I’ll be back in a couple of days max.” He spoke up, laying the last dish in the sink. “Oh, but why can’t I just go with you.” She said, trying not to sound too suspicious. “Oh no, there is nothing you need to worry about.” He said, kissing her head before leaving. Within a few seconds he was out the door and gone. She sat down on the kitchen table, feeling like she was being kept out of something.
The house felt empty, without a second person. At night she couldn’t sleep, feeling alone. It ended with her twisting and turning in bed, holding her wand anxiously. Half true the night she couldn’t stand it anymore and walked downstairs. Casting half a dozen security spells on the house. Finally feeling relaxed enough she went to bed and got a few hours of sleep before the alarm went off.
It was only a cat that triggered it, nothing else. It was around six in the morning and she figured she wouldn’t manage to go to sleep again. It was pretty light outside for the dreary industrial city, a pretty nice day actually. But she didn’t walk outside. She didn’t want to.
On the third day alone Snape returned, looking slightly tired. “Hi.” She said, wanting him to speak with her.”Good evening.” He said sitting down in his armchair and reading a two days old Daily Prophet. Clearly just wanting to rest.
It took a few days before things went back to normal. Slowly she managed to bring the thought about what Snape was doing in secrecy away. When everything was good between them the time went fast by. She picked up the paper that had been delivered by a black owl up. It was an article on the front page about how the Ministry had been working with some kind of wizard living far away. It also was about how the aurors were chasing death eaters. But when you came to the last result it all ended with the Dark Lord. Every article was about him. Maybe not intended, but He who must not be named was mentioned more than once. She sighed and put the paper down, taking a sip of her tea. Snape had been gone all morning, God knew where he was. As long as he just came home from dinner she had told herself not to interfere.
