                                       Chapter 4

From then on I spied on the ever alert Robin and his even more alert men. I stole from who they were going to steal from. I was known as many things but the main thing I was called was the Shadow. I stayed in the shadows and did surprise attacks. I especially enjoyed making Robin frustrated. His expressions and fits of rage amused me greatly. Not only have that but all the looks of disbelief, when I handed sacks of gold at a poor family’s houses. I felt free, well besides the times my mother made me hang out with Rodney. Ugh, curse him! Every Wednesday I wasn’t able to help people, I was stuck with Rodney. Robin soon learned this and whenever he saw me asked how Rodney was doing. The good thing about the question is I usually get in such a state of anger I attack Robin… Usually resulting in some form of injury. Life was good until I turned 15…….

I sat with my mother Lady Hailey in our dining room waiting for stupid Rodney to come. My mother wore a look that scared me, a look that showed she knew something I didn’t know. If she has a ‘surprise’ I’m going to die. Her surprises are never in my favor. Especially when she surprised me by inviting Rodney over every Wednesday. It is pure torture, him always being vain and suddenly complementing my looks. I feel the familiar acidic feeling of bile as I thought of it. Finally after a few minutes of awkward silence the sound of echoing footsteps resounded through our hallways. No he’s here! Kill. Me. Now. Rodney walked in a smirk on his face his brown eyes looking at me much like my mother’s and that scared me even more. He bowed slightly to us and said, “Lady Hailey, Lady Celeste. How nice to be in your acquaintance once again.” I almost threw up then and there. No it is not nice! “Good to see you to Rodney. I believe your father told me you had something to say to my daughter?” my mother said happily glancing between the 2 of us. My heart dropped like a stone. What does he have to say? “Why yes that is right Lady Hailey,” Rodney said walking over to me and getting on one knee, “Will you, Lady Celeste, marry me?” My heart dropped further. Marry him? We’re 15 for Pete’s sakes! “No.” I said simply shocking them both. “No?” they both asked. “No.” I repeated and ran from the room. That was mortifying Rodney asked me to marry him? We weren’t even courting each other. Thankfully mother and father told me I would have the choice of who I was to marry. I don’t want to get married to anyone though, not that my mother knows. I tell my father all my secrets and he agrees about not liking Rodney either. Ugh, just the thought of Rodney was revolting. I grabbed my cloak and bow from their hiding place and dashed into the woods.  I headed towards my cave and cursed in my head when I saw Robin and his merry men all laughing and talking together no doubt about their great rewards of that night. As soon as someone noticed me everyone did and they stopped. “Why are you here Celeste isn’t it Wednesday the day you spend with Rodney?” Robin asked confused his voice had gotten deeper over the years as have everyone of his merry men, not to forget bigger. Thankfully I had grown to but I was still small for my age. I shivered in disgust, “Don’t even talk about him right now!” I snapped angrily pulling my hood down and revealing my face. Robin laughed along with some others, “Awe is little Celeste angry about something Rodney said or is she just mean?” he asked me like I was a mere infant. My blood began to boil even more, “No it’s more about something Rodney asked me. He asked me to marry him for Pete’s sake and I hate his snobby guts!” I said snapping. They all grew quiet and their eyes widened, even Robin’s. “He what?” Little John asked confused thinking he heard me wrong. “Oh believe me you all heard right the idiot proposed to me.” Nobody said a word, though I could’ve sworn I saw a look of rage cross Robin’s features. Then he was expressionless. Awkward silence much. “What did you say…”Robin said breaking the silence. “No of course! Who in their right mind would marry him?! Well, maybe that bratty Leah Moore…” I said aghast. As if I would agree to Rodney who acts better than everyone else. I’d rather marry Robin and that’s saying something. “Were you in your mother’s presence? Won’t she make you marry him?” Little John asked confused as Robin shot him a glare. “Psh, as if. My parents said I would decide who I want to marry. Believe me, I don’t plan on marrying anyone. Anyways, see yah later. Or not.” I said rolling my eyes and walking away. As I walked away I heard something weird. “You’re a lucky man.” Little John said somewhat quietly to Robin. “Shut up! I know.” Robin retaliated. How was he lucky? I ignored the thought and continued on my way, time for some hunting.
