She watched them as they killed him, the queen setting an example of him in public. She flinched with every lick of the whip on his back, a very painful sensation in her chest. People cheered as he was being punished, pathetic beings, only now daring to raise their voice against him , now that he could no longer retaliate. She saw the queen standing there, plenty pleased with herself, with the life of the only person who opposed her at her feet. She probably expected him to beg, her love would do no such thing. There was nothing wrong with what they were doing, they were blood fey, all others below them , that was just the order of things, that was supposed to be the order of things. Just who did this queen think she was, punishing her love for killing a few scum. Sure they played around a little with a man that betrayed them but he asked for it. She winced when the queen handed Arrogane, her favorite subject, a heavily spelled object that resembled something used to brand cattle. She watched in shock as the man plunged the object into her love's eyes, the object feeding on his soul. Her love's scream pierced the air , his face frozen in terror. It wasn't over yet, she watched horrified when the queen dragged what was left of her love'sbody to her castle. She headed home at that point, not wanting to watch what would become of him, he was already dead .She walked home in tears, perhaps she should join him in the other world, it would be easy enough, a quick bite of a knife. She stared at the knife she often carried in her hand, she imagined how beautiful it would look with a few drops of blood in it, like a spray of red in snow. But how would she avenge her love if she followed him? Her fingers tightened around the hilt of the sword, they would pay. She vowed to herself under the full moon that night that she would strike back. She would strip those who grew a spine while he was at his weakest off everything, she would make them all bow to her, they should know that they'd be bowing for their own good, they were lesser people after all. She didn't mind waiting, she needed some powerful allies for that, people who'd be willing to join forces with her.
*************
Neil yawned like a hippopotamus, still feeling very sleepy. It was just so hot, which was rather weird , considering the fact that it was snowing outside. He was sweating like a pig, tossing and turning around his bed feeling quite uneasy. He opened a sleepy eye, only to notice three thick woolen blankets piled on top of him and the heater turned on it's max. Loki! he screeched, the man had been getting high off pulling pranks on people for quite a while but this was a bit too much. He kicked the blankets off, not really caring that they fell on the floor and dragged himself towards the heater to pull the plug. The man child would get it from him one of these days, just you wait.
The day was real slow, Loki didn't make an appearance, probably because he felt guilty about what he did to Neil. Yeah, as if! Loki didn't know the meaning of the word as far as Neil was concerned and he was probably sitting all comfortable in the stone designing the graffiti he'd draw on Neil's face the coming night. Neil scowled as he recalled what happened the previous night, him waking up to what he thought was a glowing pink evil bunny drawn on his face. It wasn't funny, especially when it wouldn't wash off, not till he begged Loki to remove it,but at least he wasn't the lone victim. Loki loved riling Nerezza up,he once irritated Nerezza so much that she bit him in the hopes that the poison from her fangs would paralyze him for a while, except it didn't . Over the past few days Nerezza had been turned into a pink pig, a fluffy cat, a pug, a squirrel, she'd probably been every animal there is in the book. The only ones that weren't targeted by Loki were Abbadon and Damien, even the castles servants sometimes falling victim to Loki's whim.
Neil remembered the boy from yesterday, one of the servants in the palace, who was searching through the shelves of the library for something when Neil entered. He had never seen a boy squeak or jump so high , the poor thing , his body marred with scars. He just wouldn't talk to Neil, in fact he got absolutely mortified when Neil offered him help for whichever book it was that he was searching. It was after all just a book, Loki probably scared the boy off or something, there was this day when all the food made in the castle was green and the cooks were terrified to plate it because they that the king would be off with their heads. Neil just left the poor boy alone, who then hightailed out of the room like nobodies business.
One of the few good things that did come out of the past few days was that Neil no longer crashed into things when he flew. In no way was he great at it, and his body still ached the way one's body would if they were new to running or something, but he supposed he could pass. He knew for a fact that Nerezza was slightly pleased with this, which was probably one of the reasons he was bored and terribly free today. He suspected it was Loki though , he had a strong feeling she just needed a day off from the Loki madness. He couldn't really blame her for it, not that he wanted Loki to be gone , he liked having Loki around. He was like a powerful crazy goofy big brother of his , one that he'd wanted since he was a kid.
