I must have stood there frozen for a few minutes before I finally picked my phone off the scorching hot sidewalk.

"What?!"

"Based on your reaction, I'm guessing you heard me right," Kat sassed. "I was beginning to think that you had fainted."

"Ha. Ha. Ha," I sassed back. "That was a funny joke to pull on me. Now for real, who are you working with?"

"Like I said, 1D. Do you not believe me?"

"Nope."

"Why not?"

"Kat, I know you are good, but the odds of you giving 1D voice lessons are not very good."

By this time, I had reached my car. I threw my purse into the passenger's seat and turned down my radio so I could hear Kat better. I pulled out of the parking lot and started my drive home.

"I'm being serious. I'm one of the voice coaches for 1D."

"Sure.. If you say you are, you are going to have to prove it."

"Fine," Kat sighed, "I will, as soon as I get to L.A. next week."

"Okay."

"Okay."

"Kat, as much as I love you 'Okay' can't be our always," I laughed, changing the topic.

"Aww, shoot!" Kat fake cried. "Alright, I have to get ready for my move. I will talk to you soon! Bye, doll!"

"Bye, Kitty Kat! I love you!"

I ended the call and threw my phone in the passenger's seat, with my purse.

I decided to distract myself from the idea that Kat might actually be telling the truth. I mean, Kat isn't usually a prankster, but there was no way she was going to coach 1D. I turned up my radio, then face palmed because I realized that Made In The A.M. was in the CD player, which was not helping the situation.

I quickly changed the CD to 5SOS. By the time "She's Kinda Hot" was over, I had pulled into my parking spot.

I grabbed my stuff, locked the car, and went through the front door of my apartment building. By the time I got to my apartment on the third floor, I was sweating profusely from the June heat, lack of air conditioning in the tight stairwell, and the "exercise."

While Kat was moving to L.A. to live out her dreams, I was living a slightly less glamorous lifestyle. I lived in a one-bedroom apartment with my best friend, and cat, Cooper.

Cooper was a gift from my mom for my 18th birthday. He was black and brown, with gold eyes and only half a tail. Coop could be sweet and cuddly, but he was afraid of strangers. He liked to play fetch, and often-times got himself into trouble.

Our cozy apartment fit my personality. It had antiques from my great grandparents, quilt my grandma made me, and a bookshelf that covered a whole wall, which my dad built for me. I had a map of the world, as well as a collage of pictures and an assortment of posters, on my bedroom wall. My cluttered desk and filing cabinets took up a whole wall of my bedroom.

Some might consider my apartment small, but I loved it. It was the perfect size for me and Coop. It had a beautiful view of a park and was only a few blocks from work and downtown.

I moved into this apartment in February, shortly after I graduated from college. Since then I have been substitute teaching around town. This fall, I will start my first official job as a math teacher at Bismarck High School.

I was really hoping I could get a job at my old high school, St. Mary's. I really loved it there, and even had the opportunity to teach there. Sadly, there weren't any openings there for a math teacher. Teaching at St. Mary's was my dream career. I got an offer to teach at St. Mary's elementary, as I had a double major in Elementary and Math Education, but I preferred to teach math, so I took the BHS job. Unfortunately, St. Mary's and BHS are rivals.

After cranking up the air conditioning, I grabbed Coop and flipped on the TV. So goes a day in the fabulous life of Jen.
