The day of the concert was upon us. When I woke up in the morning, I have a smile on my face. It was finally the day I had been looking forward to for years. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I spent the whole day counting down the hours until the concert. I lived in a daydream, imagining what the concert would be like. Yes, I had watched rehearsals the day before, but I knew it wasn't going to be the same.
I also spent the whole day saying thank you to Kat for making this happen. I'm pretty sure that she was annoyed by how many times I had thanked her and told her how many hours there were left before the concert. I just couldn't get over the fact that I was living my dream and was in a position that countless, much more deserving fans would kill to have.
The boys were pretty amused by how excited I was, but weren't around enough to hear me ramble about it. I saw them at breakfast – where Harry and I had banana waffles – and then a few minutes at a time throughout the day. They stayed pretty busy with a radio interview in the morning, followed by rehearsals, a quick lunch, a signing, sound checks, and then the meet and greet before their show.
I reached a new level of respect for them. I knew they were buy, but to see it first-hand was crazy. These boys would to the ends of the Earth for their fans, all with a smile – a real smile – on their faces. I don't know how they handled all of the chaos. I know I would be a total grump if I was that buy all of the time.
While all of this was going on, I just stayed out of the way. Kallie and Scarlet were busy all day getting the boys ready and preparing for the concert. Kat was free for most of the day, though. All she had to do was go to the rehearsal. I just followed her around like a lost puppy all day and made funny faces at Harry whenever we saw him.
While the boys were at the sound check, Kallie took the time to do my hair and makeup. I actually told her I didn't want her to, because I would sweat off all of the makeup and have my hair up in a pony within ten minutes, but she insisted. One thing I learned about Kallie over that week was that she was stubborn. Also, she had an attitude.
"Pop a squat chica."
"But why???" I complained.
I did not want to go through any more of the Kallie treatment. She always tried to tell me what she was doing when, honestly, I couldn't care less. Also, I had the patience of a five-year-old, so sitting still for that long was a struggle. Not to mention I was a flincher.
"Because I need to beautify you for the show."
"Are you calling me ugly?"
"You said it, not me," Kallie laughed. "I just want to make Harry's jaw drop when he spots you in the front row."
"Why Harry?" I asked, slightly confused.
"For a smart girl, you can be pretty stupid sometimes," Kallie huffed.
Luckily for me, Kallie took my profuse sweating into consideration. She kept my makeup pretty light, and make sure it was all waterproof. She put my hair up in a cute braided up-do, which would definitely help to keep me cool in the hot arena.
After Kallie was done with me, Kat grabbed me and dragged me to out room to get dressed. As usual, I had procrastinated, so I had yet to pick out what I was going to wear. I dug through my suitcase and picked out the same black skinnies that I had worn to the club when I first got to the cities. I also grabbed one of the 1D shirts I had brought with. It was a white short-sleeve shirt with black sleeves and a pocket. Across the back, it said "Styles" and had the number 94. I sprayed some perfume, put on extra deodorant, brushed my teeth, and laced up my black combat boots.
After Kat and I were both ready, we headed back to the venue. Kat used her pass to get us through the maintenance doors and back to see the boys, who were just finishing with wardrobe and touch-ups with their hair. And let me tell you, they looked great.
Kat and I plopped onto one of the couches in their dressing room, watching as Kallie finished doing Niall's hair. Harry waltzed into the room, eating a banana. He took a seat next to me and took a bite of his banana, while I started singing Gwen Stefani's "Holla Back Girl."
"Do you want a bite?" Harry asked, leaning the banana towards me.
"Eww, no. Get your banana away from me," I said, causing Louis to laugh.
"Jen, that sounded so dirty," he wheezed, slapping his knee and trying to catch his breath.
"Woops," I blushed.
"Leave the poor girl alone," Harry laughed, throwing away his banana peel. "Don't ruin her innocent mind."
Harry threw one arm around me and pinched my cheek with his other hand. I leaned my head into his shoulder and looked up to see Kallie wiggling her eyebrows at me. I discretely flipped her off, so Harry wouldn't see.
"You look lovely tonight," Harry said quietly. "I like your shirt."
I blushed profusely. I had totally forgotten that I was wearing a shirt with his name on it.
Before I could say anything embarrassing, Scarlet came in to tell the boys that they had ten minutes before they had to go on stage, which was Kat and I's cue to go find our seats. Harry stood up when Kat and I did, and gave me a hug.
"Good luck," I said, giving him a squeeze before we separated.
"Thanks, love," he smiled, flashing his beautiful smile. "Enjoy the show!"
Kat and I said our goodbyes to Kallie Scarlet, and the rest of the boys, then quickly make our way to our seats. The opening act had just finished, and music was playing from the speakers while the crew finished setting the stage for the boys.
Kat and I started singing along with the crowd, and I had never felt more at home. This was where I belonged: surrounded by my fandom family and preparing to watch our boys go on stage.
I felt a sense of happiness and calmness settle over me, combining with my excitement for the show.
And then the lights turned off and everyone screamed.
