So, I was certain that Carmen was hiding something from me. It wasn't really like her to do something like this. I had been a little shady myself lately though.. It had only been a few weeks that Lucas had been in town, and upon his appearance, everything in my house started to get worse. I know the two events didn't have any connection, but it was a bitter-sweet patch. I thought maybe Lucas and I could be friends, but he was obviously hiding something... And with my best friend ...
The next day, I sent Carmen a text reading: "Come over in 30.."
She replied about 5 minutes later saying, "Sorry Sam, last minute grocery trip. Dad's back is really hurting him, so ya know, they could use some help."
I had just seen her dad playing basketball with Carmen's brother, Jacob the day prior. But, I thought maybe he threw it out while playing. Although I witnessed the shady behavior at the park, she was still my best friend. So, I had to believe her. Since Carmen didn't come over, I decided to dedicate the day to writing in my journal. I didn't use it as a "diary," but I wrote poems in it. Some of the poems reflected how I felt about my surroundings..
As I was listening to music and enjoying my writings, I could hear the door open, then slam shut. I knew mom was home. I quickly got up and shut my door. I put away my phone and started cleaning my room. I had to make myself look somewhat productive. Shortly after I had started cleaning my room, my mom barged through my door.
"Have you seen your "daddy"?"
I hated when she used a mocking tone with me.
"No, I thought maybe he was working late," I tried to sound innocent with my reply. In fact, I was innocent, but she never believed that.
"Bullshit, he probably wants is to think that, while I have to slave and work my ass off to feed your ungrateful mouth."
I just stood there wodering what caused tonight's feature presentation. She stared at me for a few moments, then stormed out my my room. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and went back to writing. The words pouring out into the page like a soft morning dew. This was how I dealt with everything.
The next morning, I woke up with my journal sticking to my face. I had fallen asleep writing. I stretched and yawned and then looked out the window. I was shocked at the view. At Carmen's house, there were two police cars sitting in her driveway. I figured of the cops ever came to our town, it would be because of my parents again. Mason, Ohio wasn't that big of a town, and it was actually quite boring. I rushed to my closet to get dressed. As I walk to my window again, I see Lucas Scott emerge from the police car with one of the officer's assistance....
