Chapter 1

"Lady Ji-Ahn.. a retainer is here to see you."

I was grooming myself when my personal attendant came to my room with a rather uneasy look.

"Let him come in." I replied, setting aside the brush I was using awhile ago.

"My Lady, I came just as you requested." My retainer, Min-soo, bowed his head in respect.

His movements were sloppy and from the looks of his forced expression, he's injured.

"Did something happend in the castle? Why are you injured? Yin, hurry and bring me some bandages!" My attendant immediately left for what I asked for.

Min-soo's breathing was ragged yet he still managed to smile at me.

"My Lady, please don't worry about me. You should hurry and..Lord Soo-won... he.. killed.. princess.." He suddenly fainted, leaving those unclear and suspicious words behind.

"Hang in there Min-soo!" I cried out, but seeing the blood ooze out from his clothes, I began to panic.

"Lady Ji-Ahn, I brought some first aid kit and the doctor."

Great!

"Then Lady Ji-Ahn, please let me have a look at him. Hmm.. his wounds are rather deep. Im surprised he even made it this far." The doctor carried him over his shoulders and gave me an assuring smile when he realized my troubled expression.

"He'll be alright Lady Ji-Ahn. He just needs a little rest."

That wound doesn't look like a little rest to me. Oh well.

I nodded my head and let him do what he have to do.

"Make sure you keep him alive. He's kinda.. important." I told him, as Yin closed the door.

"Lady Ji-Ahn, I'm not sure if this would help you but that guy is really strong so you shouldn't worry about him." He patted my head as if I was a child. I don't mind it though.

"Yeah I know. I don't choose weak retainers afterall."

However, that is not my concern right now. Besides his health, I am also curious about what he said to me.

What did he mean by that? Is Soo-woon in some kind of trouble?

The next morning, I was woken up by Yin. He stood next to me with a bright smile.

"Good Morning Lady Ji-Ahn. Looks like your retainer has woken up now." My eyes shot open and I bolted out of bed.

"Lead me to where he is now!" He did what I was told and led me to one of the guests room.

"Min-soo, how are you feeling?" I greeted him.

He sat on the bed, half-naked for his upper body was wrapped in bandages.

"My Lady, I'm feeling better now. Thank you and I'm sorry for troubling you." He was about to bow down when I stopped him.

"No, it's fine, really."

My attention reverted back to the doctor who I just noticed was with us the whole time.

"Thanks for keeping him alive." I curtly said.

"My pleasure to be of help.."

"Can you give us a moment to talk?" I asked after his statement.

I still have a lot of things to tackle with Min-soo "privately" so I need him to leave.

"Of course. I'll see you later then Lady Ji-Ahn, Yin." And with that, he left the room.

Knowing that his presence was gone, I started our conversation.

"Min-soo, what happend yesterday?"

He lowered his head and his expression became grim.

"Lord Soo-won has taken over the castle," My eyes widened from this revelation.

"He convinced all the officials and guards inside the castle and killed King Il."

"He what?!" I was utterly suprised.

"In front of the princess.." He hesitantly added.

"Whaaat?!"

Okay, I know I'm over-reacting but who wouldn't?

An innocent, harmless guy like Soo-won to do something like that is unbelievable.

I just stared at Min-soo, shocked.

"Wh-what about the Princess?" I asked, hoping at the back of my head that she's alive.

"Princess Yona was saved by Hak. They're both on the run now."

Somehow, for the first time in my life, I felt sorry for someone and at the same time relieved. It must be hard for Yona. Especially that all she had was taken from her.

"Then I guess I won't ask you anymore on how you get that wound. Knowing you, you probably butt in and helped them escape." I sighed.

He silently nodded.

"Geez you...

"I'm sorry.."

"Don't be. You just did what you think is right. Now it's my turn to do mine." I patted his head and he blushed.

"My Lady, that would be really dangerous! If you go to him now, he'll probably.. probably.." He couldn't continue anymore and stayed quiet.

"Kill me?," I laughed.

"There's a chance he would but.. I'll kill him first."

"That's-"

"I'll be okay Min-soo!" I assured him and smiled.

"You should focus on getting better." I said with finality.

"But-"

"That's an order." Those words were the cue for him to stop talking.

Min-soo is very important to me. I don't want to bring him in my own conflicts with my stupid fiancee.

"I'll see you when I see you." I bid him goodbye and left the room before reminding the guards to never let anyone in unless they're Yin, me and the doctor.

"Are you leaving now, Lady Ji-Ahn?" Yin asked behind me which made me slow down my pace.

"Yeah. I'll try asking him if he bumped his head or something." I half-joked with a small laugh.

"Seriously, your expression doesn't even reach your eyes.." He blocked my way and pulled me into a hug.

There was a pause of silence until,

"I can't breathe Yin, let go of me."

He loosened his grip and stared at my annoyed face.

"You look cute when you cry." He teased.

"I'll hit you, you lowly servant."

We both laughed.
