Today makes exactly six months since my dad left. I don't think anyone understands what I'm really going through. People just expect me to just move on, to pretend nothing happened, but she didn't have to stand before a court and decide which parent to live with until the divorce was finalized.

Tears trickled down my mother's face and in that moment I knew I had to choose her. There wasn't any other choice, after all. Dad didn't even come to this hearing, he sent his attorneys. There was no way I could actually choose to live with him, if he couldn't find time to divorce his wife of nineteen years, then he most definitely wouldn't have time for Jessica and I.

"You've made your decision?" Mrs. Whitmore, my mother's lawyer asked and I nod.

"Hayley remember this your decision, not your parents'. If they forced you..."

"No one forced me to do anything." I cut her off  harshly.

"Okay." She smiled weakly and walked away.

"Hayley Green, please stand." The judge instructed and I obliged. "Which of your parents have you decided to live with?"

I glanced over mom, who was watching with intent, she smiled at me.

"I choose to live with my mother, Kelsey Green." I said. My mother smiled widely through her tears.

She rushed over to me and wrapped her hands around me. She whispered," I love you so much."

"Earth to Hayley!" Tess waves her hand in front of my face. "Is everything okay?" She looks worried.

"Uh yeah. Why?"

"You don't look okay. You've been sitting here for hours...crying!"

She holds a mirror in front of my face and I jump at the sight of my reflection.
