I woke up to the sound of drumbeats, making me groan out loud and obviously, panicking and falling off the bed.
"Arghhh"I groaned and stood up, almost falling on my my blanket again but luckily regaining my posture.
After my moment of panic left, I heard the drumbeat again.
Or, should I say, the main door banging out loudly, causing me to curse in every language I knew.
I looked at the clock and my eyes widened immediately.11 fucking 30!!!!?
Shit.
That means I missed my classes. The banging on the door brought me back to attention and I frowned, wondering who must be here at this time.
I quickly made my way to the main door, grabbing the lamp from the living room just in case and opened the door, taking a defensive stance but what I saw made my heart drop.
Before me stood a girl, her eyes red, either from drinking, or from crying. Their usual blue color drained into an almost pale grayish one and mascara streaming down her face.
Her straight blonde hair quite messy, as if she had been repeatedly running her fingers through them or pulling them.
Her clothes in a state of tattered mess and I couldn't help but notice that looking as she was now, she still managed to look beautiful.
Broken, but beautiful.I must've been staring at her state for far too long as I noticed her turn around, almost as if running away, hiding her less than pleasing state and I wasted not a single second before immediately launching myself on her, my arms tightly wounding around her shaky ones, almost as if trying to comfort her and she started crying out louder than earlier, before returning my hug .
We stood like that for more than a few minutes, her entire body quivering and shaking from whatever it was she must've gone through.
If there was one thing that I had absolutely no idea about, it was about comforting other people.
Was I supposed to hug them or talk to them or just let the silence flow by?
I tried to soothe her gently, smoothening down her hair and patting her back, trying to get her to stop crying and relax.
In the past 6 months I've been with Anna, this was probably the first time I'd seen this side of her.
This side overflowing from emotions and pain.
I was so used to see that outgoing, all the time happy girl that seeing her like this made my heart break, physically hurting me.
We stood in that position for a while, more than just a few minutes passed between us until I felt her calming down, exhaustion taking over her body as she further leant into me, seeking support, almost making me fall over.
I made my way over to her room, her one arm slung across my shoulder, putting her entire weight on my body.
I gently put her on her bed and tried to take her boots off.
I was thankful for the fact that she was wearing jeans and a loose T-shirt rather than her usual girly attire of dresses and skirts, making it easier for me to tuck her in her bed."I'll be back" I said to her and dragged in her small suitcase that she had taken along to wherever she had gone to and grabbed a bottle of water from inside the fridge before going back to her room.
Opening her door, I saw her sitting, staring into nowhere. I made my way to her bed, sitting along her side and that's when she noticed me, her usual smile missing from her face replaced with a sad expression, one that made me want to hug her so tight until she forgot everything that hurt.
I gave her a small smile and passes up the water bottle, which she took gratefully and then took a large gulp out of it.
The entire room was filled with a silence that was too scary and the only sound that could be heard were the occasional hiccups that Anna was having, her breath now normal than before, now that she was no longer crying.
The silence was defeating and even thou I was used to it, I wasn't used to Anna being so silent. It scared me in ways more than necessary and I wanted her to speak, say anything just so I would know that she's here with me.
"Say something" I whispered, my voice sounding almost scared of what she might or might not speak.
She looked over at me, her eyes almost starting to water again and I immediately went over to hug her again until she cried and cried everything out.
It was almost 2 in the afternoon when I went back in my room.
Anna was sleeping peacefully, exhausted from all the crying she'd done in the past almost 2 hours and I'd left her to get some rest.
I'd made sure to leaves some aspirin on her bedside, assuming that she would've a headache whenever she woke up considering I always had one after crying and that's what April did for me.
I was really worried for Anna.
She had not uttered a single word since she'd been back and the last conversation we had was on the phone where she appeared to be in hysterics. What even happened with her?
I've never seen her so broken before and right now, even in her worst state, she's trying to appear brave. When I asked her if she wanted to talk to me she just simple stared at me, as if wondering whether she should tell me or not.
What is it that she's hiding that's made her so miserable and in pain.
'I've got to find out and I'll have to do it soon before she breaks down completely and looses herself.' I thought and went to the kitchen to prepare something to eat.
