The next day, the class before lunch was chemistry. My specialty.
When Mr. Dunkin was finish with the lesson the bell for lunch was ringing.
I hurried down the stairs and into the cafeteria. The tables looked almost full. There was the populars' table, the jocks' (I didn't see Josh there though). The cheerleaders' table, the nerds, the musicians (I saw no Cameron). But, both musicians' and jocks' table were either frowning, smirking, or laughing at me as I pass by.
A few other tables and I arrived at my table. Though, as I got close, there were two guys sitting on it. One wearing a varsity jacket, the other playing with a guitar. Cameron and Josh.
"Boys," I said.
"Hey Kace!" Josh said, with sauce on his shirt. "I told you we'd sit with you on lunch!" Cameron said looking up from his guitar.
"What're you playing?" I asked.
"Oh, it's a song I'm working on," he said strumming his guitar. "Wanna hear it?"
As I sat on my chair, "Sure," I shrugged.
Then, he started to play a soothing melody. It sounded like an guitar cover for 'Trumpets' but with a more romantic touch to it and a different melody. But to me it sounded like 'Trumpets'. Yet, it also didn't. More feelings into it. He didn't sing though, he just played it and constantly glancing at me, then continues playing. At one point he stopped. But, I didn't want him too. "Why'd you stop?" I asked.
"I told you," he shrugged. "I'm working on it." Looking away as he said it.
He seemed down. Was something bothering him? If something is then, I shouldn't get involved. I barely knew him. But, maybe I should--
"Hey, Kace," Josh said, interrupting my thoughts. "Check this out." He said as he held a football in his hands. He was using his thumb as an aim, searching for his target. Then, his thumb found a victim, Lyla. He was prepared to throw his football, when I grabbed it from his hands before he can throw it. "Hey!" He complained. "What was that for?"
"That's Lyla," I pointed out. "So?" He asked.
"She's my friend." I pointed out, again. "Oh," he said with regret. "Sorry."
I turned back at Cameron. His attention was still on his guitar. Or on his food. He also had a notebook and pen beside his food. Constantly writing on it, then getting back to his guitar.
I'm a great singer, maybe I can help with his song, "Hey, Cam." I said. His attention turning to me. "Maybe, I can help with your song."
His face, slightly looking less depressed, "Really?"
"Sure!" I said. Reaching for a piece of paper and pen out of my bag, I wrote my phone number on it. "Here," I said handing it to him. "Since, we're working together, I thought that we should have some kind of communication, right?"
Cameron managed to crack a smile, " Thanks, Kace. I appreciate it a lot."
I was waiting for him to give me his phone number. But, he just stared at me, weird. I was just continuing eating my lunch and there was this long, awkward silence between us. Both, jocks' and mucisians' table laughed and whispered to each other. Until, Josh nudged at Cameron and whispered in his ear.
"Huh?" Cameron said, distracted. "Oh, oh! I forgot to give you my number. Sorry." He said. As he ripped out a blank page from his notebook and wrote with his pen.
I breathed a sigh of relief, if Josh didn't stop this silence. I almost did. I got the paper from Cameron and stood up from the table to put my tray back.
As soon as I sat back down to join the guys, the bell for the end of lunch rang and the next period was physics and I had to go.
"Cam, we'll work on the song maybe, after class tomorrow. Alright?" I said.
He just nodded and got back to his guitar.
"I'll see you later Kace!" Josh said.
"You too, Josh!" I said.
Then, I dashed through the hallways and into the classroom. Good day to wear sneakers.
*A/N Hey there guys. Super sorry for the big editing on this chapter. I was feeling bad for the short chapter so I extended it a bit. I hope you enjoyed the extension though. Oh, and there will be no titles either, 'cause I suck at making them. Now, it's just the chapter no. and the main character of that chapter.*
Anyway, guys.
