[A/N Sorry for all the flashbacks, but I need to give you info about the characyer's pasts. It would be much worse to have them physically saying it. Thanks for sticking with it :-)
~Shannon]2 years ago. A small, hidden part of the Capitol. Reaping day for the 38th Capitol Games.
"Come along, now. We have to get to the Capitol Square."
A thirteen year old girl sighed on the most expensive chair in the room, their most valuable possesion. The District person tittered at her as they got ready for the Reaping.
"If you're nervous, you shouldn't be. Even though your entries are doubled, you didn't need to sign up for any tessarae."
"I don't care. I want to back to my family."
The girl had been desperately holdong on to her last memories for a while now. She had only been three when she was taken away...
"You can't, sweetie. Remember, if you go back, then your family will be killed."
"I know, I know. Please, stop talking now."
She did have some control over her guardian. If she wanted her to stop talking, she would stop talking. If she didn't want to go to bed, she didn't have to go to bed. If she wanted to skip school, she could. Only twice a year, but still.
But she was homesick.
Even though she had lived in her prison for ten years now, and survived one year of reaping, she hated it anyways. It wasn't home. It was a home, but it wasn't hers.
"All right, all right. Let's get on with it."
They made their way to the square, where she lined up with the other thirteen-year-olds. For the second time, she feared she would be seen by her sister or her parents, but she couldn't even see them in the crowd.
Even though she knew she shouldn't, she looked for them anyways. She wanted to see her sister. She wanted to see her mother's face before it once again faded from her memory.
"Welcome, everyone, welcome, and let the 38th Capitol Games begin!"
The District person, Sara, began to pick the names. "Ladies first!" she trilled, and carefully selected a name from the box.
"Not me, not me, not me, not me," the girl whispered. But she was out of luck.
"Crimson Snow!"
Crimson's eyes widened. Now she sirely would be discovered. But as she walked up to the stage and was fakely welcomed by Sara, she couldn't see her family at all anywhere in the crowd.
She was relieved at first. They wouldn't be killed. They wouldn't know she was still alive.
But she still felt sad that she would never see her family again. She was about to die.
