I jumped when I heard my phone blare from my side table, immediately pausing my episode of Teen Wolf before reaching out for my phone. I frowned at the screen that read 'Still Hate Nate (ha get it)?', exactly like that- don't judge me, before answering it with a grunt.
"Nat, you awake?" he asked stupidly and I rolled my eyes at him.
"No, genius. I sleep-answered and now I'm sleep-talking" I snapped sarcastically, eagerly wanting to go back to my show.
"Oh. Well, how do I wake you-?"
"What do you want, Nate?" I growled into the phone. Was he really this stupid at 2 am on a Tuesday morning? Ugh, idiot.
"Oh! Well, I just realized who the girl in the blue dress was in Junior Prom! In fact, I have a picture of her" I was only half listening until I actually processed the words he was saying, which honestly took 3 seconds, but when I did; my eyes widened and I jolted upright.
"What? You do? Who is it?" I tried to play innocent but I was pathetic at it, especially when a nervous laugh escaped my lips seconds after.
"Oh, I plan on telling you tomorrow- I mean, today. With James, too" he taunted and I scowled at him, cursing and imagining 27 different ways of torturing him. What in hell was I going to do? He was going to tell JD today. No. I can't let this happen.
"Nate, please. If you were really my friend-"
"C'mon now, princess. I'll meet you in front of your locker tomorrow- I mean, today before class. Okay?" he chuckled into the phone, the urge to punch him was strong enough to tempt me to go to his house and actually do it.
"Fine. Wait- have you been thinking about this the whole time? You called at 2 am just for this?" I scoffed and there was silence on the other line, confirming my theory, before I burst out in laughter.
"Hey, hey! Keep quiet or I'm telling James" he blackmailed me, again and I ceased my laughter- I kept my smile though.
"Yeah, okay. I hate you too" I bid before I ended the call and continued my episode. It just so happened, a few minutes into my episode, my phone rang again. I was going to kill Nate.
"Call again, and I will personally castrate you with rusty nail clippers" I snapped into the phone. There was silence on the other end, letting me assume that the message got through. I was about to end the call when I heard the voice I least expected to hear from the other line.
"Well, you could've just not answered. Would've been nicer too" James' voice echoed through and I hit myself on the head. Hard. Twice. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why didn't I check that damn caller ID? I pulled the phone from ear and I frowned when I saw Nate's label before putting it back.
"I'm sorry, it was Nate's name on the ID" I apologized. He knew I was going to yell at him so he gave the phone to James. Great. Wait- why was he with James? He laughed on the other end.
"He told me you wouldn't be at your best behaviour at this hour, I'm outside your house with Nate... get changed and come out" he instructed and I pouted, staring longingly at my episode. Teen Wolf episode or James...? Wow, this was way harder than I thought. In movies, when the girl was faced with this type of situation, I would've gone with the guy-- but it's Teen Wolf.
"What if I don't change and go out?" I asked with a not-so-steady voice.
"Well, I'm right outside your door. I wonder what the button at the side of the door does... Hmm- why don't I-?"
"No! No! Nooooo! Okay. Give me 5 minutes" I panicked and he chuckled deeply on the other end, making my heart skip beats and my lips twitch upwards.
"Ten" he merely said and I sighed relieved he'd give me more time.
"Nine" he continued and my eyes widened when I realize what was going on. He wasn't serious was he?
"James" I let out a warning, starting to put my laptop aside. Please don't tell me-
"Eight" Oh my God- there was no way I was going to change in less than 5 seconds. What the hell was I going to do?!
"Seven" he sing-sang and I looked down on my loose tee and boxers and swore before I dashed through my window, tiptoeing on the tiles; I still heard him counting down as I reached for the branch near the roof and jumped on my way down, running to lessen the impact.
"Fou-Woah! What the--?!" he yelped and I had to hush him as I panted. He gaped at me, phone still in hand, for what felt like forever. I wrapped my arms around myself, standing uncomfortably before he broke into a smile. "Holy crap, that was awesome" he grinned. My heart fluttered as the corner of my lip quirked before I remembered why I just did that. The cold wind nipped at my skin and I just wish I grabbed a jacket or my blanket or something.
"Thanks? I guess? I wouldn't have done it if you just gave me some time to get ready though" I glared at him and only then noticed the car slightly hidden by the tree and Nate who was watching what was happening. The wind blew a little harder and I gripped my arms, rubbing my skin together in hopes of heat.
"Uhm, you're welcome? You want to borrow my jacket? You seem a little under-dressed" he said politely at first before smirking. I sharpened my glare, hiding the fact that I am internally screaming.
"And whose fault is that?" I struggled to keep a steady tone.
"'Thank you for lending me your jacket, James! I would've died from hypothermia! O-M-G, you're so warm and hot, James! You're so-'"
I grabbed the jacket from his hand and wrapped around myself quickly before stomping towards the car, wishing I never answered the phone. In all honestly, I was pretty annoyed. I hopped in the car and slammed the door just enough to make a loud sound but not enough to actually worry about any damage.
"Hey Nat!" Nate greeted me cheerfully, like it wasn't two in the morning.
I glared at him silently, my annoyance slowly brewing into anger. I pulled up my knees to my chest and pressed myself against the door in hopes of more warmth. Nate noticed and turned up the heat but I still kept silent. James entered the car, fixing his position in the driver's seat. "Awww shit, she's mad" Nate said as James started the engine.
"Hm?" James turned to him then to me with a confused look. "What? Why?"
You're joking. Right?
I continued to glare at him, not wanting to talk 'cause I knew I would say something that might've crossed the line so I looked out the window. There was a long period of silence and we hadn't moved so I had no choice but to look back at them. They were staring at me, making me even more annoyed. "We're not moving until you speak" Nate announced and I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. My anger completely blinded my infatuation for James and just magnified it for Nate. I stared at them for a long time, the temperature in the car already warm and comfortable enough but I kept my position... and my pride.
"Fuck you"
