Chapter 1
"Miranda go pack." My mom ordered out of the blue.
"Huh" I answered
" Pack for about a year's vacation " mom repeated.
My little sister Tiffany jumped up and down like a drunk cricket.
" I said your sister not you Tiffany" my mom said breaking her heart. A wave of jealousy crossed Tiffany's face. If looks could kill I think I would be in the grave right now.
Running up to my room I stuffed clothes, perfume, deodorant, a hair brush,& toothbrush, into my hot pink bag. Shoes, socks, and heels went into a faded black carry-on. Fancy dresses went into the black cover that you got from the laundromat.
After I was done packing I decided to break the news to my friends. I called Grace first.Hearing her groans and protest I chuckled, who knew that I was so greatly appreciated.
After that I called Jessica,Sophie, and Taylor and got the same results. I would miss them and I still didn't know where I was going for this vacation, and alone too.
I laid on my back and thought of the possibilities. Texas with my rich godmother. I don't think mom needs me to experience the rich life. France but with who, I did have a third cousin, but from my dads side so mom doesn't know him that well.
I miss my dad though I never got to meet him he died in a plane accident 2 days before I was born.
California? My mom wouldn't let me step foot in there.
A series of knocks greeted me. "Come in." I shouted. Mom came staring at me as if she would never see me again. " Did I grow a third eye." I said jokingly while patting my face.
She leaned in for a hug and I returned the favor "After a long, awkward moment, she said "I think you know why your going on this vacation." I stared at her blankly.
Since I was seven I could read people's thoughts. I thought I was crazy but I figured as long as I was crazy I might as well use the benefits.
Some grown ups had some - interesting- things going on in their heads. High schoolers, don't even go there. There thoughts gave me so many headaches they have so much to worry about so many deadlines coming up. It caused me stress to even listen to it
Focusing on my mother I used my powers. " Your gifted" She thought. Oh no!!!! I was not going to some academy for geeks.
Rumor has that they had pop-quizzes everyday. I'd think they were smart enough to know its not a pop quiz any more. It's a quiz plain and simple. I was smart. I knew that, but not their ordinary type of "gifted."
" Gifted as in mind reading, you dummy" The voice inside my head said.
"I'm not going to some school for supernatural freaks." I shouted.(over dramatic I know but what would you be like)
"They're not freaks." my mom said soothingly. They'll teach you how to use your power and control them. Mom kissed me on the cheek and left.
As she was walking out she said,"Remember, gifted or not I'll always love you." I watched her as she left the room.
"Well that's where I was going a place for the Gifted." I sighed.
Well being gifted might be cool. Maybe, just maybe awesome.
