Rebecca's pov
Ethan and I grabbed a cab directly after we walked away from the stand at the gay pride. During the half hour ride we couldn't stop talking about what we just experienced. Or at least I couldn't, I sensed that Ethan was a bit uncomfortable about it. We both didn't know that people who were attracted to the same sex existed. In out community there were only man and woman married. But for me a whole new world opened.
"Do you think that in our community there are gay people? I mean not openly, but maybe just hidden." I asked Ethan.
"Of course not." He replied "It's definitely sinful. When we get at our apartment I will look it up in the bible, okay?"
"But have you ever heard of it before?"
"No I haven't and Rebecca can we just stop talking about it. It makes me quite uncomfortable." He sighed.
I looked at him and a sudden sadness overwhelmed me. I was supposed to marry and although he was a nice guy, I didn't like him enough to spend the rest of my life with. I would rather spend it spend it with the girl at the stand, at least she made me heart skip a beat.
I felt my cheeks redden as I realized what I just thought. The gay pride must have had a lot of influence on me. I couldn't think straight anymore. I definitely wasn't one of them.
"Rebecca" Ethan nudged my shoulder "We have arrived."
Ethan and I grabbed our bags and paid the driver after we had stopped in front of a big building. We stepped inside and the first thing we saw was an electronic thing what goes up and down.
Considering they were no electronic used in our community, we were both looking at it with wide eyes.
"Can I help you?" A man's voice brought us back to reality. The man at the desk was watching us, curiously.
"Well, it's our first time here and we were figuring out how to get to our apartments. I have 306 and she has 322." Ethan said.
"Okay, so you walk into the elevator" He pointed at the electronic thing "and you press three. When you arrive there, you will immediately see 306 on your left and further down the hall you will see 322."
"Okay thank you."
We did as he said and soon I arrived at my own apartment, leaving Ethan behind at his.
I looked around, glad to see that everything was furnitured and financed by the community. I opened the fridge, hoping that they had take care of some food too. Luckily, there was enough to make some sandwiches.
I walked back to living room and settle myself on the huge, comfortable couch. I eat my sandwiches as I suddenly realize there's a huge screen in front of me.
"What the hell is this?"I murmured quietly. I looked at it, but had no idea what it was or what to do with it so I just shrugged it off. I could ask Ethan tomorrow.
I had no idea of time, but realizing I was tired I went to my bedroom. It was the only bedroom in the apartment and it was a bit small, but I always had to share my room with two of my sister so I didn't care. In the middle of the room was a huge bed full of fluffy pillows. Next to the bed was night stand and right next to the door was a closet along with a drawer. I immediately unpacked my bags and put my clothes in it, only leaving my pajamas out. I opened a door that on the left side of the bed. My mouth literally fell open when I walked into the bathroom. Considering I was used to wash myself and take a shower only from a big tub, this was absolutely crazy. I had a big shower and a sink all for myself. I smiled as I let myself in, brushing my teeth before taking a long shower. This was definitely the best birthday present I had ever gotten.
