Imagine:

You and Carl have been best friends ever since you were 10 years old. When he found you wondering the woods near the prison, his life finally started looking up. Although you were unaware, Carl has always had feelings for you.

And here you guys are, 4 years later, living inside the safety of the Alexandria walls.

On a bright and humid Saturday, Carl decided to walk to your house because he was going to take you somewhere quiet, then... He was going to tell you how he felt about you. About how even in this world full of flesh eating monsters, he was still in love with you.

He came to the realization that, everyone is in a seemingly safe place for the time being and he has gone long enough bottling up his feelings. If he didn't tell you soon, he might never get the chance, especially living in a world where death lurks around every corner.

Carl walked up the steps of your house and gently knocks on your door.

"Hey carl!" You say brightly with a smile.

That smile of yours killed Carl inside. He loved being the reason that crinkles formed by your eyes.

"Hey Y/N, do you wanna hang out for a bit?" Carl asks shyly as his cheeks burn a light shade of red.

He has never been nervous in front of you but today was different. Today was going to be the start of something new, he thought.

"Sure!" You say happily as you exit the door and walk side by side with Carl.

To you, this was just some quality time with your best friend, but to him, he was enjoying every second of being in the presence of the girl he loved.

Carl leads to up to the 'children's room' , which is a house where all the kids hang out.

He takes you up to the attic because he is the only one who ever goes up there, so he knows it's quiet.

He sits you down on an old sofa, dust flys up when you sit on it, and he prepares himself to tell you.

"Okay Y/N, I brought you here because I had something to tell you." Carl starts.

"Oh course, you can tell me anything cause we are best friends." You say.

"Right, listen, I have felt this way for a long time. And as you know, I'm not really good with words and I know that what I am about to say is pointless in a world like this, but I don't care. Because Y/N? I'm in love with you." Carl says.

You are shocked by this sudden news. Carl has always been your friend, nothing more. And honestly, you are unsure if you want anything more.

The apocalypse isn't the place for love and you couldn't bare to lose someone else that you cared about.

"I-I'm sorry Carl. I-I don't feel that way..." You say, feeling guilty.

The look on Carls face almost makes you burst into tears. He feels as if his world has come crashing down. He feels at a loss of actions. He is clueless in this moment. He wants to cry, he wants to kiss you, but at the same time, he hates you slightly for tearing his heart into pieces.

"I'm sorry." He mutters and storms out of the house.

You chase after him, but notice him running for the gate. Rick doesn't let you outside the gate anymore because last time, you and Sarah, your friend,  went out together, she was killed. Rick was trying to prevent another similar situation.

"Carl please!" You call after him, but he ignores you.

The next morning carl was no where to be found. So, you took it upon yourself to find him.

Dispite ricks direct orders, you went outside the walls, determined to find your best friend.

It's not long before you find carls had on the ground, surrounded by the autumn leaves.

Your ears tune into the sound of walkers. You look down at carls hat and then up, about 50 meters ahead, you see two walkers, tearing apart a body.

Tears form in your eyes, fearing the worst.

You kill both walkers and reveal your worst nightmare.

The mangled body belonged to you best friend.

Carl couldn't bare to live in a world where you weren't his.
