"Carl come on, you can't be serious!" You laugh as you both trudge through the woods, slightly ahead of Rick and michonne.
"I'm completely serious! I at 112 ounces of chocolate pudding!" Carl laughs.
"I wish I could have had some, I love that stuff!" You playfully nudge him.
"It's a shame, it was damn good." Chandler says, jokingly rubbing it in your face.
"Anyway, so uh, what do you think about this plan?" You ask.
"Plan? Oh right. Terminus. I mean, nothing is safe anymore so I don't know. I mean, it's worth a shot I guess." Carl shrugs.
"I don't think your dad even wants to go. I think he believes that's where the others went." You say.
"Yeah that's a good point. You are probably right. My dad would never believe this mumbo-jumbo." Carl says, adjusting the hat on his head.
"Mumbo-jumbo? Your intellectual vocabulary continues to entice me." You tease.
"Ah, stuff it. So umm... Actually, nevermind." Carl shakes his head.
"No, tell me." You nudge him gently with your elbow.
"Well, do- do you, um, think we made a mistake?" He asks, pursing his lips.
"With terminus? Well I think it's our best shot at finding the others. And besides, we don't with have a choice with your dad and all." You say.
"Not with that." Carl says.
"Then what?" You question.
"With us. Do you think we made a mistake with us?" Carl asks, looking over into your eyes.
"Oh. Um. I don't know. Maybe. You know what? No. No we didn't. Nothing has changed. That stuff doesn't apply anymore, Carl. We can't." You say, looking down at your feet as they kick the autumn leaves beneath.
"What doesn't apply? Happiness? We can't be happy?" Carl asks.
"That's not it, Carl." You say shyly.
"Then what, Y/N? Why don't you want to be my girlfriend?" Carl questions, stopping you in your tracks, placing his hands on your shoulders.
Back at the prison, carl had asked you to be his girlfriend. After much pondering, you turned down his offer. You weren't living in a world where that was acceptable. You were already so close with carl, you feared losing him. But being his girlfriend would push it that much further. You just couldn't do it. You knew that would put him at risk, he would want to protect you that much more, even though you are perfectly capable of taking care of yourself.
"I'm not putting you at risk, carl. Just accept that. Besides, the closer you get to someone in this world, the worse it is when you lose them." You explain, looking him in his eyes. Those piercingly blue eyes. You focus on your feet instead.
"Hey, look at me. There is no point in fighting if we have nothing to fight for. Just think about it, Y/N." Carl says softly.
"Come on, kids. The railroad is this way." Rick says, taking his hand out of his jacket pocket to motion to you and carl.
"Just think about it." Carl says before jogging after his father and michonne.

"I bet I can balance on the rails longer than you." Carl smirks, challenging you.
"Challenge accepted." You smirk.
You and carl hop up the on rails of the train tracks and begin walking forward.
You laugh as carl struggles to keep his balance, while you on the other hand, walk perfectly fine on the silver rails.
"How are you doing that?" Cale whines as his waves his arms in the air to keep from falling off.
"It's one of my many talents." You flaunt in a joking manner.

Carl flashes you a grin before pushing your arm, making you lose balance and fall off the silver rails.
"You cheated!" You say, shoving him off as well.
"I guess losing isn't one of your talents, huh?" Carl teases.
***later that night***
Rick has decided to make everyone take shelter in a nearby house.
"Carl?" You whisper into the darkness as you see a silhouette pass by the bedroom door.
"Yeah." You hear carls voice.
"Could, um, could you stay with me tonight?" You ask hesitantly.
You can barely make out carl coming into the room.
You shift over across the bed to make room for him.
He lays down in the bed and you snuggle up next to him, trying to get warm because the house is bitterly cold.
"Cold?" Carl whispers.
"Yeah." You shiver. Carl tightens his grasp around you.
"Always." He whispers.
"What?" You question.
"I'll always stay with you." He says.
"Like in my bed?" You reply.
"Just in general." He shrugs.
You realize that was supposed to by slick and romantic and you kind of ruined it. He will always stay with you. He isn't going away, no matter how many times you have tried to push him away. He is always there. You try to prevent him from putting himself at risk over you, but you realize he is going to do that regardless. Maybe being his girlfriend wouldn't be so horrible. Maybe he was right, there's no point in fighting, if there is nothing to fight for. Maybe you were wrong. Of course this world is unforgiving, but staying together doubles your odds of survival. And he is easy on the eyes. And you do have strong feelings for him. Yeah, you were defiantly.
"Carl?" You whisper.
"Hm?" He mumbles.
"I was wrong." You say, biting your lip.
"About what?" He asks.
"Wants to be something with you. I changed my mind. I-I do want to be your girlfriend." You say.
"Really?" You can practically hear his smile.
"Yes."
