Sorry for not updating in a while!! I don't update the imagines as often as I should and i apologize. But you should check out my other works! But I would like to thank you all for reading this. We are at 15k!! That is so beyond amazing. Thank you all so much. Now, on with the imagine.

"Remind me again why we are out here?" You ask in a slightly irritated tone.

"You do realize what's happening tomorrow, don't you?" Carl turns and questions.

"Yeah, you are going with the others to kill negan. But that doesn't explain why we are out here right now." You say, catching up with carl.

"Because, from what my dad says, we may not come back. And I just wanted to spend my last day out here in peace...with you." Carl says.

"Then why don't you stay? Help guard the place." You try to persuade. You and carl weren't dating, or anything like that. He was the only boy your age after Ron died, and you both just clicked. Carl was as close to a best friend as you had.

"I just need to go, you wouldn't understand. But I need to." Carl says softly. You decide not to press the matter, you trusted he had his reasons.

"So you have accepted death?" You ask.

"I accepted it a long time ago, y/n. I knew at a young age that people are going to die and that I couldn't stop it."

You and carl sit down and lean against a fallen log.

"Do you miss it?" Carl asks, breaking the silence. "What the world was like before."

"In some ways. I mean, some said that this world would change people, but it didn't. I think there were worse people alive before the world changed. I like the freeness of it now. I do miss my family and my friends. But yeah, I kinda do, kinda don't. What about you?" You explain.

"Actually, I don't-" carl is cut off by the distant sound of walkers.

You and carl both draw your weapons.

"Follow me." Carl whispers and you oblige. He leads you to a tree with a hollowed out trunk. You and him are awkwardly close to each other. You can feel his warm breath hit your nose.

About a dozen walkers roam past the tree, stumbling along. The volume of crunching leaves almost matches that of the deformed groans of the walkers.

Your breath hitches when a walker stumbles a little to close to the trunk of the tree.

Carl senses your uneasiness and ever so slowly, reaches his hand up and brushes his fingers against the back of your hand. You grin at the gesture.

The walkers pass by and the groans become more and more faint.

You begin to leave through the opening in the tree but carl gently pulls you back in.

"Listen, if I don't make it back tomorrow, I want you to know that if I didn't die to negan, I would have died protecting you." Carl says desperately. "And also, I've always wanted to do this..." He quickly connects our lips, as if, if he didn't do it fast enough, you would have objected. His soft, warm lips are pressed steadily against yours. Although you can't quite describe the feeling he gives you, but you can describe the emotion of the kiss. It's a goodbye kiss. The passion and and the desperation. He thinks he is going to die and this is his goodbye.

Carls arms snake around your waist as the kiss becomes more heated.

Soon, when carl pulls away, you feel slightly disappointed.

"Carl-" you start, but he cuts you off.

"No," he grins. "Don't ruin the moment."

***the next day***

You watch the RV drive off. The one containing carl and most of the group. Your heart pains for carl. You want to kiss him again, just one more time. And you promised yourself that if he makes it back, you wouldn't stop kissing him.

It brought tears to your eyes at the fact that you had to say 'if he comes back' there is no definite survival in this world. It is always 'if' never 'when'

*epilogue*

I guess the emotion of a kiss says something. Maybe in a way, the desperation of the kiss shared between carl and y/n was some sort of sign. She wished she would have payed more attention to her heart and her gut. She should have convinced him to stay. If she did, she wouldn't be kneeling by a filled hole in the dirt where the body of carl is, six feet under.

You never know true loneliness until you've known the opposite. In a way, she wished carl had never kissed her, as her heart might not ache as much.

The loss of her brother, her sister, parents. The loss of her friends and the life she once knew. And at the top of the metaphorical pile of bodies was the newest. Carl Grimes. Another body added to the countless number this world has taken.

She wished she would have realized it sooner...

She could have loved the boy in the sheriffs hat.
