Alessio POV

"Mamá! What are you doing here?!?" Clutching my Mate tight to my chest with one arm, I wrapped the other around my mother as her keen eyes glanced between us, a smile on her lips. Raising a brow, I released her only to fully grab my Mate once again. What was she going on about now?!?

The wolf-whistles and cat-calls erupted then, as Dino and Mariella burst into the kitchen. An instinctive growl ripped through my chest as I held Luna that much tighter against me, her body bare beneath my shirt; she was in Heat... Like hell if I was letting either of them near her... Shooting warning glares between them, I pressed a quick, hopefully reassuring kiss to her forehead, the contact seeming to somewhat calm me down. Then, as their own eyes darted between each other and us I realized what all that was about. "Lay off, guys! No, we haven't Mated yet!"

"But you did do something, didn't you...?!?" Smirking, my sister was oh so kind enough to all but rip my Mate out of my arms, a smirk on her lips. Yep, that's what all this was about, indeed... "Oh, come on, Alex, I can smell you all over her! It's not potent enough that you guys Mated, but it's definitely more than a simple kiss..."

Rolling my now dark eyes, I muttered a curse under my breath and held my arms out for my Mate. "We did... Things... Okay?!? Damn, what are you now, the Mating police?!?" My lips tugged into a frown as my Mate was not back where she belonged, in my arms. "Mariella, give me my Mate... Please."

My voice was a gravelly sound in my chest as I fought against my Wolf; he wanted her- we both did- but I was not about to hurt my sister just to have my Mate back in my arms. "I will not ask again, Mariella... Give. Me. My. Mate.!"

Then she was in my arms; goddess, she was safe... She was still in Heat, but she was safe... Now, I only had to make sure she stayed safe, and there was only one way that would happen without Mating her right there on the breakfast bar in front of my Pack...

Clutching her tightly against me, I pressed a hard, needy kiss to her lips as she sighed. Nodding curtly to my sister, I carried her upstairs and into our room, laying her on the bed beneath me. "I love you, Luna..."

Her brow arched as my sentence trailed to a stop. "But..." Wrapping her arms around me, she tried and failed to pull herself into a sitting position before releasing a cute, indignant huff. "You either let me up, or tell me what's going on...."

Sighing, I ran a hand through my hair and gazed down at her, knowing that she was in no way going to like what I was about to tell her; and why would she?!? My little Mate was strong, independent, and thought that she could protect herself; and she might have tried to protect herself, once upon a time, but now that she was here with me, her protection was my job. "I'm going to take you away for a while, until your Heat is over..."

"It's for your own protection, little one; your protection is my number one priority, you should know that... There are male Wolves, and their humans, here who would love nothing more than to take advantage of you; if I take you away now, I won't even let them have that chance to hurt you... My Wolf and I can't concentrate, all we want to do is lock you in our room for the entire day; we're on edge around you, just because we want you so much... I'm sorry, Luna, truly I am; I know you will hate being cooped up all by yourself, but that's a price I'm willing to pay, if it means keeping you safe... I love you too much to even take the risk of leaving you alone..."
