"Morning, sleepyhead."
I yawned, ruffling my brow as I rolled over, burying my face into Jason's chest. "What time is it?"
"7:30," Jason answered, gently kissing the top of my head.
"So early," I groaned, squeezing my eyes shut.
"You have a class," he reminded me, pushing me off of him lovingly, "Wouldn't want to miss it."
"Ugh, I guess you're right," I mumbled, hitting him playfully in the arm as I dragged myself out of bed, pulling on my jeans.
"Kiss me before you go?" Jason batted his eyes at me as I headed for the door.
"Of course," I grinned, leaning over to peck his lips.
"Hey, what're you doin' Friday?" he asked.
"Nothin' why?"
"Stace's throwing a party," he said, "if you wanna come."
"Oh yeah," I said, fighting back the uneasy knot that was forming in my stomach, "That sounds fun."
"Cool," he grinned, pecking my lips one more time, "I'll see you Friday then?"
"Yeah, for sure," I said, "I'll call you after class."
"See ya," he called after me. I grabbed my dying phone off of the coffee table on my way out.
12 missed calls from: Dan.
Twelve. Jesus Christ.
I stopped in my tracks for a minute on the pavement, thinking about what to do next. I sighed, deciding. I dialed Dan's number.
"Hello?" Dan's tired voice croaked at the other end of the line.
"Dan? I'm sorry about last night, I was really busy and—"
"Phil?" Dan asked, confused and tired, "what time is it?"
"Oh," I mentally slapped myself, remembering how early it was, "It's like 7 am. Sorry, I wasn't thinking, I just saw your calls and I thought—I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay," Dan yawned, "I was just gonna ask about Saturday."
"Saturday?" I asked, distracted.
"Yeah, Saturday," he yawned, "I'm coming to York Saturday. For my audition?"
"Oh, right," I said, rubbing my forehead with my free hand, "Saturday."
"Phil?" There was a twinge of worry in Dan's voice. "Is everything okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, everything's great," I replied, "Just tired."
"Same," Dan chuckled, "I'm gonna go back to bed. Maybe you should to. I'll call you later and we can talk about it."
"Okay, yeah, good plan," I agreed, "Bye."
"Bye!"
I shoved my phone into my back pocket and ran my fingers through my hair. I couldn't quite explain what I was feeling. The stress was too much. I was too tired. I decided I needed to go back to bed, so I skipped class and headed for my apartment instead. I just needed to sleep. Sleep has a funny way of making all your problems disappear.
