3rd PERSON POV
Alyssa Weller sat in the corner of the huge hall watching the bride and groom dance for the first time. It was a romantic sight and made her think of her own love life, not that she had one. Alyssa has been single since she graduated college and will continue to be single until she meets the right man. She is the shy type so making the first move is out of the question. Although she does not like to be alone as much as she is she has plenty real friends and cannot imagine her life without her best friend Helena. Helena and Alyssa have been friends since grade school and they made a vow to never forget one another in any situation or circumstance. They love each other. As Alyssa brought herself from her thoughts she noticed a man watching her from the opposite side of the room and made an effort to look around her to see if perhaps another woman...or man...was around her. She had at least ten feet on either side of her. The man was Caucasian and she herself was a light skinned African American woman. The man had a stubble that was becoming more than a stubble. He was about 6' 2" from what she could tell from such a long distance. His hair was jelled down and not a piece was out of place. Alyssa was invited by Helena and predicted she would be standing along, and she was correct. The man across the room was quite handsome, but he seemed strange and weird for that matter. She slowly but surely made her way to the ladies room to freshen up and take a breath.
She watched her reflection in the mirror, making strange faces to see if different features would look better on her, she was interrupted by someone standing at the door.
"You know you're beautiful. You are doing that thing again where you hold parts of your face and make crazy faces." Helena calmly spoke to Alyssa with a small smile.
"I know, I'm sorry. I saw a man staring at me from the other side of the dance floor and I have two options. Number one, either I am super sexy, or number two monstrously ugly." Alyssa walked over to Helena and gave her a soft hug hoping for reassurance and received nothing. She removed herself from the embrace she created, and seemed to only share with herself. "What? What's that look?"
"Devin and I are moving." Helena said.
"Wow. Oh. Okay then, um..." Alyssa turned her back to her friend something she had never done before, until now. Alyssa had no one. Both of her parents died when she went off to college and she is an only child. Alyssa heard Helena's Louis Vuitton heels click and clack as she walked to face her. Helena took her hands and held her pinky in her only true friend's pinky and said something familiar from their childhood.
"I promise to always call you when I feel too distant, when I am lonely, when I am bored, and when I just want to gossip. . . I pinky promise." Alyssa did not respond, just gave a soft smile and tears fought their way to her eyes, but she wouldn't allow it.
"You go out there and enjoy the rest of your wedding girl! It's your special day and I don't want anything, I mean anything to mess that up." Alyssa sent Helena on her way and finished in the bathroom. When Alyssa left the bathroom she went over to the bar and asked for a dirty martini with no olive since she is allergic. She sat at the bar and let her shoes fall from her feet. She noticed a man with dirty blonde hair sitting next to her with his back to her. Was this the man that was watching her from the other side of the room? Alyssa tapped the man's shoulder and found a completely different man, well not completely different, she knew they were two different people.
"I am so sorry I thought I knew who you were." She went to turn around and was stopped by the sound of an angel, or so she thought.
"Oh well I wouldn't mind if we did know each other. My name is Justin. Justin Hull." Justin extended his hand but Alyssa apparently had forgotten how to use all her muscles. After a few awkward moments she finally shook Justin's hand and smiled in return. Alyssa noticed how much larger his hands were to hers and she nearly fainted out of the tall stool she was siting on. Justin's legs were almost touching the ground which meant he was about 6'4" and all legs.
"I'm Alyssa. I was just-" before she got to finish a man with dark brown hair and a noticeably growing stubble stepped in the middle of them. She leaned back slightly confused and nervous.
"HEELLLLLLLOOOOOOO THERE GORGEOUS! My name is James and I see you met my little brother." The man standing before her earned no smile, but a side eye, but she was a respectful young lady and would not gain a negative reputation. She is already subject to certain prejudices. The two men before here were both inhumanly sexy, and shaped liked gods but one was more like Hades and the other like Zeus! When it finally came to her senses, this was the man staring at her from afar and now that she was giving attention to someone else he wants to speak up.
"Excuse me I was talking to your brother. There is no way in hell I would ever want to talk to you. First off you're being rude and I do not tolerate that." Alyssa was now standing but was being shadowed by James. He was much taller than Justin, probably 6'7". James was much more muscular and looked more confident. James literally sweats cockiness. "Please stop being such a cocky fool. It's not an attractive trait." Alyssa looked at James and did not budge. After the second, slightly less awkward silence of the night James walked away and doing so took Justin's drink without even asking. "He is such a jerk, I have never met anyone so rude and egoistic in my entire life."
"I wasn't going to introduce you to him, until we had a real date but knowing James, I saw it coming from a mile away. Usually women literally crawl away with him. Why didn't you?"
"That is a deep question, why don't we discuss it over dinner later this week?" Alyssa just asked this man on a date, she has some leftover sass from a few minutes ago from telling James off. Justin smiled at her and stood up from his stool as well. He took her hand and kissed the back of it. That's when she noticed his crutch. Justin had a single crutch that was secured slightly above his elbow. Alyssa did not realize she was staring until Justin cleared his throat.
"I am so sorry, I don't mean to stare I just did not notice that..." She cut herself before she said anything she would regret.
"It's a long story, I'll share it over that dinner you promised."
