ALYSSA'S POV

As soon as Justin finished his story it was pretty awkward to sit and chat about other things. The only thing on my mind was his story. I can't forget it but I'm glad he felt the need to tell me. I guess he likes me more than I thought. After we talked a bit more I told him about my plain old, regular life and then we watched a few movies. Since neither one of us had work the next day it was fine that we stayed up passed ten-o-clock.

"So Justin. . ." I began softly.

"Yeah?"

"I just have another question."

"Okay shoot!"

"Have you ever been to prison? Or jail?

"Umm. . ."

What the hell did he pause for?

"Nope. Clean as a whistle, a brand new whistle."

"Okay because being a criminal is not sexy!!" I laughed probably louder than I should have. But he joined in with me and for some reason I was crying laughing.

"You know I think you're so cute when you laugh. And basically any other time."

"Awww. Thanks but you haven't seen me asleep yet."

"Yet?"

"Yeah...I think this relationship can work. Just try not to screw it up!". We bursted into laughter again and I got up to use the bathroom. I fell in love of course. The room was magnificent and magical. I never knew a house to be so enchanting!

After I was done I walked back down to the living room and Justin was gone. I picked up my phone from the table and began to text him. As I was about to press send, I felt two strong hands grab around my waist and mouth. Preventing me from screaming. I started kicking and almost threw my elbow when the man dropped me. I turned around and saw Justin with his hands up in a playful 'I give up' type of way. I looked at him sideways and started shaking my head no.

"Don't be doing that, you scared the mess out of me! Oh my god Justin. I almost cried! You play too much!" I was laughing but I was so scared I was about to be killed. I didn't know how to act. As I playfully hit arms he was trying to guard himself as best as possible. Then the doorbell rang.

Both Justin and I paused. We furrowed our eyebrows and then stopped staring when the bell rang again. Justin walked over to the door and looked though the peephole. He looked back at me and whispered for me to go hide in the storage closet. I quietly tip-toed toward the closet unsure why he wanted me to hide. Justin opened the door and said, "What the hell are you doing at my house at 12 in the morning?"

"I got kicked out by my landlord. I haven't paid my rent since February. . .of last year."

"Wow. You can't live here if that's what you're thinking."

"Come on brother. Let's not do that. I literally have no place to live."

"Why didn't you go to mom and dad's house? They'd love to see you."

"They said I can't move in until I get a job."

"You think I'd be any different? If you can't pay bills, you can't live here." Without responding to Justin, James walks into the house and sat down on the couch.

"So who's in the closet?"

"What are you talking about? I'm alone. I was about to get into bed."

"Justin there is two of everything on this table. And the red bottom heels look familiar right by the door." I realized who Justin was talking to and I flew out of the closet. I was scratching my head like I was caught in a lie. Which I was.

"Well Ms. Alyssa Weller. How are you tonight?" James asks.

JUSTIN'S POV

"I'm fine actually." She responded quietly.

"Is there something I was interrupting? Because I can leave for about ten minutes. That's all Justin needs anyway." James laughs a little.

"That's not true, not true." I desperately explain.

"It's fine with me as long as it's not with you," she says pointing to James. I chuckle and walk over and take a seat on the couch.

Alyssa walks over as well but she leans over to pick up the dishes. When she did James was looking at her up and down. I begin to grab the plates and wine glasses from her and James says, "No no no let her pick them up I like to watch her." She rolled her eyes at him and I got up and followed her into the kitchen.

"I am so sorry about him. He's crude and doesn't care who knows."

"It's fine. I ignore douches all the time. He's a dumbass and makes comments about women like a misogynistic jerk."

"Oh wow. Um I agree but he also had a temper so if he hears you he'll go crazy and start yelling."

"Justin I do not care. I'm not afraid of him."

I didn't know how to respond to that so I just thought I'd fill her in on a little information about his past.

"I have to tell you something about him. When he was in college he did a lot of weed and he was known to be a pothead."

"Okay. A lot of people are potheads."

"Okay but one day he decided he wanted to try shrooms."

"That's a stupid idea. Just stupid."

"I know but he's a doer so he did it. He claims he doesn't remember anything after but he was sent to prison for rape and attempted murder." I stopped because she was completely shocked. "But of course my parents didn't believe it and the victim was so traumatized she didn't come forward to testify against him, my parents paid $10,000 bail for him to be released."

"Why the hell did you let him get bailed out? Do you think he did it?" She whispers quietly.

"I have some doubts but other times I feel like he can be dangerous."

"Have you talked to him about it? Maybe he remembers some of it."

"I would never bring that up. Ever again. The last time I did we had a fight. A fist fight."

"I think you should talk to him about it. Maybe if he comes clean with himself he'll change a little."

I wish what she said was true. He's never going to change. Not in a million years. I have prayed he would change for years now and he's still not good. Not one bit. I want an intervention but he's completely broken. He's shattered. No amount of tape and glue can fix him.
