Hour 16
(10:00 PM EST)
We left the carnival after hitting the target and watching Sean fall into the water a fews times.
"I'm so tired." I yawned as we walked to the car.
"We can go get some coffee." Beckett replied, putting his arm around my shoulders.
"Dunkin' Doughnut's?" I asked him, since it was my favorite place to get coffee.
"Where else?" He smiled. I looked up and him and grinned a cheesy grin.
"Ah. You treat me so well." Giving him a peck on the cheek.
"Remember that when some guy tries to hit on you at a college party." He joked, but it only brought silence. Reminding us that we wouldn't be together everyday soon. "Sorry." He whispered, feeling guilty.
"It's okay." I said softly.
"Let's talk about something else." He suggested. We got into the car and headed to Dunkin' Doughnuts. "Do you know what's next on our list?" Beckett asked me.
"I'll tell you after coffee."
"Why?"
"I don't think you're going to like the idea."
"Well now you HAVE to tell me." He insisted.
"Sorry, no can do."
"Hayden, tell me." Beckett pleaded.
"After coffee." I smirked.
"Fine, after coffee." He rolled his eyes.
We ordered our coffee through the drive through and right as we picked it up and started driving away Beckett eagerly asked, "So what are we doing?"
"Are you up for some square dancing?" I said nervously.
"What?" He laughed.
"Square dancing." I smiled. "That's what's next on our list."
"I should stop letting you make lists." He joked.
"See I told you wouldn't like it." I told him. "Square dancing is fun!" I argued. "You wait and see."
"Okay." He gave in. "Where is this taking place at?" He asked me.
"At the park we went to this morning." I said.
"So in public?"
"Yup." I grinned.
"Great." He signed.
"You'll be fine." I said. "Come on it'll be fun!" I smiled at him, excitedly. "Out in the open for everyone to see." widening my arms. "But you're not going to be embarrassed right?" I teased.
"Honey, I was born for this." Beckett said in a southern accent, surprising both of us. We both broke out laughing.
"Sure." I rolled my eyes.
A few minutes later we pulled up into a parking lot near the park and got out. The air outside was crisp and a little chilly so I grabbed Beckett's extra jacket he had lying in the back seat of his car. He hooked his arm into mine and we skipped to the place where the square dancing was happening. Everyone had already begun dancing and singing along as we jumped in. We followed along with everyone else and tried to copy their movement but just ended up stumbling on each other.
After a while we got a hang of it and we were laughing away. Beckett tried to make up his own moves but they never caught on, so he went back to the original dance moves.
Thirty minutes later we were tired so we took a seat on an empty park bench near the dancing and just watched others perform it way better than we did.
"See that wasn't so bad right?" I asked Beckett, putting my head on his shoulder.
"It was actually fun." He placed one of his hands on my leg.
"Told you." I smirked.
"Hey now, let's not get so cocky." Beckett laughed. "But yes you were right, it was fun."
"See, you should put me in charge of lists more often."
"Like I said, let's not get cocky." He teased as I gave him a little push.
"I'm gonna miss you." I sighed, looking at the stars in the sky.
"Me too." Beckett replied.
"It's going to be so weird just seeing you a few times a year." I pointed out.
"We always have Skype."
"Yeah. But it isn't the same." I said. There was silence for a while before I said, "Beckett,"
"Yeah?" He asked.
"I'm scared." I cried. "I'm scared we're going to get caught up in work and school and our new lives." A tear feel down my cheek slowly. "That we're going to be too busy to come home for holidays and we're going to forget about Skype calls and-"
I was stopped by Beckett s calming voice, "Hey, hey, shhh." He wrapped me in his arms and the tears poured out of my eyes. "I promise to call you everyday." He said reassuringly. "Don't worry." He hugged me even tighter. "I know it's scary, but we're going through it together. We'll figure something out."
"But what if-"
"Shh." He stopped my thoughts. "Let's not worry about later. Let's just enjoy now." So that what we did. We sat side by side in each others arms watching the people laugh and dance and the stars glimmer in a distance. No more tears or worries slipped into my mind. I felt safe in his arms and in his words.
We were going to figure something out together, no "what if's". We were going to be okay.
