Esther wanted to feel more excited about exploring Narnia. The wind brought snow flurries to land in her hand, and the sun began to dip below the trees. It was magical, like something out of a dream. Perhaps she was dreaming, but the blonde desperately hoped she wasn't. She wanted to learn to love Narnia for all it was. She suspected that was what the lion was trying to tell her, but she should have guessed it wouldn't be easy. Being human could be a death sentence, and she just happened to show up during the open season.

Mr. Beaver led her and the Pevensie children through the woods, not giving further details on their final destination. He kept going on about how big of a secret it was. Esther could only assume he didn't want the spy trees to know about his plan. Although she found it strange to be weary of trees, she knew not to put anything past Narnia, especially given a talking Beaver was leading her. As they rounded a corner, Esther entered into a small conversation with Peter, Susan, and Lucy about how she came to be in Narnia. Edmund listened intently but didn't dare show interest; he had a reputation to uphold.

"Let me get this straight," Peter reiterated. "You live in California, which is in America. You got here by a wardrobe, the same as us, but instead of being from our time, you're from the year 2019?"

"That about sums it up," Esther answered.

They stared at her as if she was some alien from another planet, and she didn't blame them. She wouldn't believe herself either, especially not 8 hours ago. If it was bananas to her, she couldn't imagine how it sounded to four kids from the 1940s. Their expressions made Esther laugh for the first time since they learned they were being hunted. It was good to laugh, making her wonder if her family and friends would have reacted similarly. Her mind wandered further into how they would react if she told them about the magical world in her wardrobe. They would probably just send her to therapy if she did.

"What is it like in your time?" Lucy asked.

Esther had to think about how best to explain her life in a more traditional style. While she had read about their era in history books, she had no idea how to introduce them to the simplest things in her life. While cell phones were standard in the modern, the Pevensie siblings would most likely see it as a marvel. Ultimately, she settled for the simplest of explanations, giving them just enough not to affect history but give them a glimpse of the future. She figured a small dose of crazy was more manageable than a bigger one.
