Maine's POV

"Maine! Let's go!" Coleen shouted.

We are about to use the stairs. When the elevator opened.

"Let's use the elevator instead. We're wearing a dress for crying out loud." I answered, then laughed.

We entered the elevator and pressed 6th.

"You know we've been friends for years now but still, you're like a kid, Maine!" Coleen said.

"I'm still a kid. I'm 12 years old, sister!" I uttered.

"You're a young adult now. Act like one."

"Alright. I'll try. But for now let's enjoy this masquerade party. Okay?"

"Okay." Coleen answered.

When we reached the 6th floor. Everything is so cool. I feel like a grown up now. Ha! Ha!

We wore our masks and entered the room.

I saw Mom and Dad slow dancing. I am happy to see them that way. Coleen's parents do know how to throw a party I guess.

We grabbed some apple juice for ourselves and seated.

We watched the older people socialize.

Then Coleen was called by her parents.

"Wait here. I'll get back to you as soon as I can, okay?" she said.

I nodded.

She left me. Alone. I'm used to be alone so it's okay.

I continued to watch the old people dance and have fun. Saw other kids play on the other side. And saw a boy who looked pretty bored.

I intently look at him, then he suddenly looked at me.

I turnaround because I was really shy. Embarrassed is the right word. Shook my head and..

"Something wrong?" the boy is already beside me.

I screamed coz I was shock to see him beside me.

Good thing the music's loud enough.

"Sorry. Did I startle you?"

I nodded.

"I just caught you looking at me. I thought finally someone knew me."

"I don't. I just find you really quiet while other boys like your age is playing." I said.

"I'm too old for that. I'm 13. I just want to stay at home and play video games instead."

He's a cool kid after all. We talked. All through the night while waiting for our parents.

Alden's POV

"Why is she looking at me? Did she notice who I really am? Masks dont work, I guess." I told myself.

I decided to ask her, so..

"Something wrong?" I asked.

She screamed.

"Sorry. Did I startle you?"

She nodded.

"I just caught you looking at me. I thought finally someone knew me."

I said.

She said I was too quiet and I explained to her that I dont want to play with other kids anymore since Im a young adult now.

We talked like we know each other for a very long time.

"Your parents are also here?" she asked.

"Yes. I am actually waiting for them." I answered.

"Me either. I just love the idea of the party that's why I joined my parents here." then she laughed.

We didn't remove our masks. As much as I want to ask her to remove it, I respected her decision not to.

I enjoyed talking to her.

When her parents came,

"Let's go now." her Mom said.

She nodded.

Her Mom went back with her Dad.

"Nice meeting you then." she smiled and waved goodbye.

She stood up and ran to her parents,

"Wait up! What's your name?" I shouted.

But the music's too loud she wasn't able to hear me. I tried to chase her but I was too late.

"I wonder when will I see her again" I told myself.

Went back upstairs and sat down.

I sat on a scarf. I guess it's hers since it matches the color of her dress earlier.
It has a letter "M" on it.

I'll keep this and give it back to her if ever we meet again.
