Chapter5: Drowned

Jack awoke in an instant. He looked to Athena's bed. She was still there. Jack quickly turned to Ivy's bed. He jumped when he saw Pain dragging a limp Ivy through the window. Jack stood up, but then Pain disappeared laughing an evil laugh. Blood appeared on the bed sheets & pillow case. Jack ran to the window, but didn't see Pain anywhere. 

Jack's frustration grew & a blizzard took place. The angrier he got, the worst the blizzard became. Tears were forming in Jack's eyes as Athena woke up. She looked across the bed room & noticed that Ivy was gone. "Jack! Jack!" Athena jumped out of her bed. "Where's Ivy?" 

"I don't know!" Jack threw his hands up in the air in anger. "Pain took her." 

"You mean, that was all real?" Athena asked & she started to breath hard with wide eyes. 

"Yes," Jack replied gravely. "Next thing I knew, Pain was dragging a limp Ivy by the throat through the window. I stood up, he disappeared. Then I saw her bed drenched with blood." His eyes were still glistening, but looked down at the floor when Athena was looking. 

"We have to save her!" Athena ran to the window & could only see a raging blizzard. "Jack!" she turned to him. "Cut off the blizzard! It'll make it harder to find them." 

"I'm sorry, Athena," Jack whispered, "but we can't go looking for them. They're gone. The blizzard reflects my mood & I hope Pain gets wiped out by it." 

"Then so will Ivy!" Athena yelled at him. "Have you given up?" Jack didn't say anything. 

"What is the meaning of all of this hollerin'?" North slammed the door open. 

"Ivy's missing!" Athena looked at North. "And Jack caused a blizzard so now we can't go & search for her." 

"Pain took her." Jack mumbled, looking out the window still. He was nearly going to start crying. 

"Pain?" North asked, thinking he mistook what Jack had said. "Are you sure?" 

"Very." Jack replied nodding. "And I'm not stopping the blizzard. She's already gone." 

"How could you say that?!" Athena was losing her patience. "She's out there, dying or maybe even already dead, in the hands of her enemy!" 

"Athena," North put a hand on her hand. "I'm sorry. This is all we can do." 

"No!" Athena tore away from North. "I lost my dad, almost lost my brother, I don't know what happened to my mom, & I'm sure as heck not letting Ivy go just like that." Athena stomped towards the door. 

"No!" Jack jumped up & came to Athena. Athena tried to get away, but Jack grabbed tight to her arm & forced her to look at him. "He. Will. Kill. You."

"So what?" Athena replied. "I've been tried to be killed before. How is this any different?" 

"No one has been trying to kill you." Jack shook his head. "If you're thinking about us, we were only trying to help you get away from Pitch. You & your brother." 

"I'm thinking about Pitch." Athena muttered. "just how he tried to kill us all! So, let go!" 

"And look how well that turned out." Jack barked a bit too harsh. "Listen, please don't." Jack's voice softened. "Ivy is way more experienced than you. She handle herself & Pain. She's done it plenty times before." 

"But, all that blood...." Athena trailed off. 

"She'll be alright." Jack assured her. "Come on. All we can do is hope that she gets out ok." 

Meanwhile, Ivy lied unconscious by the pond in Burgess. Her eyes slowly opened & she felt the base of her head. It hurt real bad like someone had hit her there. She even felt like there was a cut there. 

"Your head still hurts, doesn't it?" a voice asked. Ivy turned her head. Pain was standing nearby.

"Pain!" she yelled & stood up. Her head stung from standing up so quick. "Gah!" Pain gave a chuckle as Ivy tried to grab her moon hookers, but they were gone. So was her moon staff & necklace. "Where's my stuff at, Pain?" Her head stung, again. "And what did you do to my head?" 

"Oh, it was just a little hit with your moon hookers, but the bleeding stopped." Pain replied with a smile.  "Then there was a blizzard. I have no idea where that came from, though."

"Where is my stuff?" Ivy asked again. 

"Why would you need to know?" Pain bickered. "Your not gonna be able to use them when I'm done with you." Ivy gave a confused look. 

"What do you mean?" she gave a sideways glance at him. 

"Can you swim?" Pain asked. 

"No," Ivy started to panic. "Why?" 

"Oh, I was just wondering if you could tell me what it is like under water, drowning." 

Ivy gasped & tried to make a run for it, but Pain was too quick for her. He wrapped a red chain around her & pulled her back to him. "I'm going to give you a chance, Ivy." Pain offered. "You stay with me & love me, I won't drown you." Pain loosened the chains a little. 

"Wha-" Ivy began to say, but Pain swiped a kiss & Ivy made wide eyes. She smacked him a cross the face. "Are you crazy?!" Ivy shrieked. "What has gotten into you?!"

"Ivy," Pain began. "I-" Ivy smacked him again. I got ready to smack him again as Pain quickly said "I still love you!" Ivy stopped right before she hit him again. 

"You, you still love me?" she made wide eyes. "But if you love me, why did you beat me up with a crow bar 13 years ago?" 

"Because," Pain began, " I was jealous of Jack & I wanted to see how much he truly loved you." Ivy just stared at him with her hand still up. Then she put it down. "but as I realized you were falling for him, I loved you less & less." Pain tightened the chain. "And now, I am at the end of the line." 

Pain dragged Ivy over to the pond & held her above a hole in the middle of the pond. "I hope you enjoy swimming with the fish." Pain taunted. He let go if Ivy & she fell into the ice, cold water. Pain stood over over the hole, watching her. 

Ivy struggled to break free, but it was useless. Ivy couldn't help, but think of the time jack fell in. She was so terrified & heartbroken. She knew Jack was gonna be the same way when he found out about this. Ivy's eyes began to close as she took one last look at the Man in the Moon. 

Bubbles floated up to the surface & Pain smiled at his success in killing Ivy Ivy, forever. "Now, I have some business to attend to. Odious, senorita!" Pain laughed as he flew away to Athena's home. "Jack is going to be so heartbroken, he'll have frostbite!"
