Chapter 19 - He puts the 'A' in asshole

Kai

Wow! I stared at the house that stood before me. It was more of a mansion than anything else. Alyssa had been silent on the car ride here, which tells me something was on her mind. I didn’t want to bother her about it, but I could tell she was clearly distracted. “Whose place is this?” I tried to make conversation to distract her from her thoughts. “Mine,” she answered absentmindedly then proceeded to move things around in the box I hadn’t noticed she had until now. Alekzandier and Domnik were sleeping again. It’s almost as if the day and the journey were just too much for them.

Once she found what she was looking for, she climbed out of the car and went around to the security system. She punched in a code and the wide gate swung open. Once we were safely through, she punched in the codes again, locking us in.

Inside was even grander than the outside, and this garage had quite a few car selections as well. I eyed them wistfully. Alyssa didn’t seem to be in the mood for talking so I left her alone. We pretty much settled in quite easily. Alyssa took the master and of course there was a nursery attached. I took the room across from hers. I didn’t have any clothes and pretty much couldn’t access my funds. Knowing Adrian, he would have somebody watching it.

I was pretty hungry but didn’t want to trouble Alyssa. The kitchen was pretty much empty; I didn’t have any cash and didn’t know the area well enough to go out searching.

I put my head in my hands and sighed loudly.

“You’re hungry, why didn’t you tell me?” It was weird how she always managed to pin point what exactly was wrong with me. “And something is bothering you. What is it?” I lifted my head and looked at her. Her eyes looked puffy. “Have you been crying?” She looked away. “I’m fine, don’t worry about it.” Normally I would have pressed her for more information, but something in the way she looked told me not to. She would tell me in her own time.

“Okay that’s it! We’re going out. We’re going to have dinner, and you are going to tell me what happened while you were at the castle. You’re also going to tell me why you’re moping around like you just lost your favourite toy. Now go shower. Tomorrow we’re going shopping and you’re going to love it.”

Why should I be excited about shopping was beyond me, but I’ll humour her any way.

After I was showered and dressed in a clean pair of jeans and t-shirt, I found Alyssa waiting in the kitchen with the boys.

“We need to go grocery shopping tomorrow. There’s nothing here to eat.” She frowned when she said this. I looked at her attire and smirked. “You know people are going to think we’re a couple right?”

“Do you care?”

I shrugged.

Dinner was pizza at this little cafe we found after driving around for some time. The twins were still sleeping, which was a record for them. “So,” Alyssa’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Tell me what’s bothering you.” I took a bite of my pizza. How exactly to tell her I had been involved with her sister? Not only that, but the kind of relationship we had wasn’t exactly a normal one.

“Kai?”

“I used to me involved with your sister,” I blurted out.

She continued eating her pizza and for a long while said nothing. I waited.

“Which one?”

“Alexis.”

“Hmm.”

“That’s all you’re going to say?”
