To Die For

Chapter Eight

Skye woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing. She quickly looked at the text and sighed.
Text: "Hey it's Ward. Call me."
Skye sighed and texted back.
"How did you get my number?"
He replied. "I have my ways."
Skye sighed and looked around. It sounded like May and Hunter were still sleeping. She quickly got out of her sleeping bag and went to the door. She silently opened the door and slipped out of the room. She carefully closed the door and walked down the hall. There, she paused and dialed Ward's number.
"Hey Juliet." He answered
Skye immediately blushed at the sound of Ward's voice calling her "Juliet."
"That was such a cute note you left me," Ward went on with a smile. "'I'll be Juliet.'"
"Shut up," Skye replied. "I was just responding to your reference about how you could be Romeo. And how do you have my number?"
"I told you," Ward answered. "I have my ways."
"Of course," Skye went on. "Because you're the famous Ward. You are always gonna be able to get yourself out of the toughest situations, and manipulate girls to fall in love with you, and-"
"Hey," Ward interrupted. Then his voice turned soft. "What's this about?"
Skye sighed.
"I'm sorry. It's just that the people who I'm working with are trying to kill you, and I'm caught in the middle. It's just really stressful."
"Well, how about we get away from the stress," Ward suggested. "Let's go on a date."
"A what?!" Skye yelled. "How?!"
"Let's meet at a coffee shop," Ward said. "I'll text you the time and address."
"Wait Ward how are we even gonna-"
"That's it!" Ward exclaimed happily with a grin. "I'm taking you on a date!"
"Wait Ward-"
"I got to go bye!"
"Wait Ward-"
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep went the phone.
"WARD!" Skye yelled. "Ugh. What next?" Skye went back to sleep, a little while later May got up and Skye woke up to the sound. She checked her phone and saw a text from Ward
"8:00 at the park, I'll take you to a local coffee shop from there" Skye held back a smile because May was around and got up to get ready, when she came out of the bathroom she found Hunter up and greeted him with a cheerful good morning
"You are aware we were kidnapped yesterday right?" Hunter answered sarcastically, Skye ignored him and checked the time, 7:40.
"Twenty minutes... What to do for twenty minutes.."
She sat on the couch and asked May
"So what now? Our cover is kinda blown"
"-and Ward's not dead" Hunter finished.
"We go back to shield and regroup. We'll find another way to find and kill him" May answered, Skye nodded and thought
"Yayyy we're gonna find another way to kill my boyfriend.. Lovely.." She looked at her phone again, 7:50 "I better go.." She thought
"Okay well before we go can I go grab some coffee?" May nodded a little and Hunter said
"Oh coffee sounds amazing! I'll go with you!"
"Crap!" She thought before saying out loud
"Well I kinda wanted some time alone but I can bring one back for you!" Hunter agreed and she walked out the door "That was almost bad... See this is why I can't do this with Ward..." She thought
When she got to the park she found Ward on the swings waiting for her
"Hey Jules" he greeted playfully
"Shut up" she answered back before sitting on the swing next to him
"So are we gonna get coffee or not, cause I promised Hunter a coffee"
"You what?"
"He wanted to come with me"
Ward laughed
"That would've been quite the date" she laughed before he stood up and led the way to a quant little coffee shop. Ward pulled the chair out so Skye could sit down. He then went over to the other side of the table and sat down. They ordered their drinks and soon began talking.
"Sooooo," Ward said. "How's the hunt going?"
Skye chuckled.
"Well, seeing as you're not dead yet, not so well. How's Hydra? Or should I say, your first love?"
Ward sighed.
"Skye, that's not how it is. You were my first love. I have never, /ever/, loved Hydra. I just work for them."
"No," Skye replied. "You own them. And you won't give it up for me."
"I can't!" Ward defended. Then he looked around to see if anyone was listening.
"It's not that simple. I can't just let Hydra go, they'll come kill me. Like I said before, they aren't Shield, they kill people for fun."
Skye sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.
"Well what are we supposed to do?! We can't keep going like this, living in lies."
Ward sighed guiltily.
"That's how I've always lived."
They both looked down awkwardly.
"Come on," Ward said after a while. "Let's go for a walk."
He grabbed her hand and pulled her up. They started walking along the street.
"Skye, I may be Hydra, and you may be Shield. But as long as we're together, it'll be okay."
Skye smiled up at him.
"I hope you're right."
"Of course I'm right," Ward replied with a smirk.
Skye chuckled.
"Has anyone ever told you how cute you are when you are being a 'stuck up know it all'?"
Ward grinned before leaning in to kiss her. Skye smiled and kissed him back. They continued their walk awhile before going back to the coffee shop, Skye ordered a drink for Hunter
"Let me pay for it" Ward said
"What no I told him I'd pay"
"Well don't tell him who bought it." "Okay.. He wouldn't drink it if he knew anyway." She got the drink and they walked back to the park together
"So we're going back to Shield today, we have to find a different way to get to you and kill you now, since I blew the first one. You're welcome by the way" Skye told him
"Oh good luck! Hope you find me"
She kinda glared at him jokingly then started laughing
"I don't know you're a hard man to find" he laughed "but seriously though how are we gonna do this? We can't be in the same place for long or we'll kill you. Not ideal for a relationship.." She said he was quiet a little before he answered
"We'll figure it out."
Skye sighed and they walked on in silence, then they went their separate ways after a goodbye kiss.
