Animals, Leather Jackets And A Mysterious Mystery (Zarry)

Chapter 1

*Harry POV*

I have been working at the London Zoo for quite a while now. University was not my cup of tea and to be honest, I was lost after High School. That was until I had a Brother & SisterDate with Gemma. Our dates consists out of walking around and seeing where it gets us.

Four years ago, it brought me to the London Zoo. When we were walking around I just felt at peace there. It was calm and peaceful. The animals were all resting up, eating or just having fun. That was until we came to the giraffes. They always have been favourites of mine, so it's a place Gemma and I always just take a seat at the bench and talk, just watching them and their funny antics. A little one couldn't reach the leaves just yes to feed himself and I just couldn't stand it. So I got up and got some  leaves him. They never quite reached the little guy because throwing leaves just made them fly away, but for some reason he saw how I was trying and it made him put in some more effort. He got some leaves and I applauded him. Instant bonding it is called.

That's how I got here. I started at the bottom though because I had no experience with animals and no degree to work with or nurse them, but I didn't care. Now I am an official caretaker of a lot of animals, but that is of course all that I am allowed to do. Take care of them. Feed them, clean there cages, following doctors orders when they are ill, talk to them, play with them. Well as long as it no lion or any other dangerous animal. I don't like to be eaten you know. I can imagine it is a rather painful death. No way, not for me.

I also take care of the 'Meet the penguins'- programme. Kids can see them up close, feed them and learn all about them. I had to learn a lot, but it is well worth it. I love doing it. Kids and animals, perfect combination.

The best thing about it all is that I have my closest friends here. When I started walking here with Gemma, I told her all about my loniless, I was 18 and I had no clue about the world. I had never dated a girl, I had no real friends, I never hung out with anyone, never got drunk... I wasn't in the least adventurous, that has changed now thanks to 3 amazing people.

Louis Tomlinson, he is 25 and takes care of the children's animation outside of the zoo. Waiting in line is never boring with around. He makes balloon animals, sings songs, tells jokes. It's like he is a child himself. He is extremely witty. He is actually singing pretty loudly at the moment. Oh my ears, they are bleeding...

The Itsy Bitsy Spider crawled up the water spout.

Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.

Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain,

And the Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the spout again.

Liam Payne, his dad is running the place and he is learning everything he needs to know about the zoo. At the moment his dad takes care of the important business, like the money, advertisements, sponsors, accountancy... All the boring stuff. Liam gets to boss around. And although he says he hates it, he secretly enjoys it. The glint in his eyes completely gives it away. He really never is rude though, he tells us nicely, unless we ignore him to see how far we can get him to explode. Especially Louis, he loves that game. Liam is 24 and one of the most responsible guys I have ever met, unless it is after his hours and he needs a break. Man, that boy knows how to go hard and wild.

And last but not least, we have Niall Horan. A cute little leprechaun who is also 24, but looks like he is 18 and who adores food. I don't know why he got the job of ice cream vendor. Whenever you see him he is eating ice cream. We always worry that the visitors will have none, but so far everyone is running around with their cones and are visibly enjoying it. The fact that he stays to skinny is something to be jealous of. I have to work so hard every week to stay in shape and the little leprechaun just eats his way through life and stays gorgeous.

After hours we mostly stay in the zoo. It's our home. We live together in a large apartment on the grounds so that we can check everything when we feel that something is wrong. Niall and Louis are not aloud to do much but they try to follow Liam and mine's orders as much as they can. If everything is all right we enjoy  a beer and talk about everything.

Late now conversation mostly are about who we are and why we made certain decisions. We are always supportive of each other and it really is the most cosy time of the day.

We also talk a lot about our insecurities. It really is no wonder since one straight guy is living with two gay people and one person who is bi.

Yes, I'm gay so is Niall. Lou is Bi, but I think he likes boys more than girls. His googly eyes towards Ni are just too obvious to not notice.

Liam is the straight one, but he likes sharing a house with us gay people. He believes through us he knows how woman work. Excuse me?! When he told us that Louis almost attacked him... But we got our revenge later that day! PILLOW FIGHT!

We also like to sing. Mostly it's just songs we hear on the radio, but sometimes it's full on. Ni with his guitar and all of us singing together in perfect harmonies. We have thought of forming a band, but if that would work out we have to leave our jobs and no matter how much we complain about it, we wouldn't want to leave. We just love it too much.

So whenever we get the chance we sing in the park during our breaks, that we manage to take together every time, and entertain the guests some more. We are a band of singing monkeys and we are not ashamed to admit it.

All in all, ever since I started working here four years ago I have been a very happy guy. I have my mates, the animals and enthusiastic kids around me all day. A family that supports me and accepts me and money in my pocket. What do I need more right?
