Without losing a piece of me, how do I get to heaven? Without changing a part of me, how do I get to heaven? – Troye Sivan, HEAVEN
'I think it's safe to say that our test next week will be changed to tomorrow period four.'
Everybody in class groaned in annoyance. Justice was the only one to smile about it. A test. An English test?
Easy.
It would probably be the same for Alistair –
NO! She told herself, Don't you dare think about him. The past is the past and that is all that matters.
'Now I hope everybody has done their homework,' announced Miss Mills, 'Because instead of using up all of my time to grade each paper, everybody in the class is going to read their story at the front of the room, and each peer will give the story a rating and review.'
Alistair raised his hand uncertainly. When had they been given homework? He could not remember, and judging by the faces of the people around him, neither could anybody else.
'Um Miss Mills?'
The teacher looked up and set her eyes on the young boy. 'Yes, Alistair? Would you like to go first?'
Alistair shook his head. 'No,' he started, 'I don't think you assigned us any homework.'
His peers murmured in agreement.
'Oh, are you sure? Okay, then I will give you all this lesson to start your assignment.'
'What is the assignment about?' asked Clarissa.
'Oh, it's just a short story,' explained the teacher, 'Use your imagination to write a fanfiction.'
I could probably write a stupid story on my life in the past 2 weeks, Justice joked to herself, That would be the easiest thing to do right now.
She looked around the room, tapping her pen against the keys on her computer. Clarissa was staring at Miss Mills as if what she had just said was the craziest thing ever.
'We did that in our other class,' Justice explained to her, 'You take the characters and plot from an original book, television show or movie and write your own events.'
Clarissa blinked at Justice blankly and turned towards Miss Mills again.
'Does that mean I could write a story about The Vampire Diaries?'
Miss Mills nodded. 'Yes Clarissa.'
'Okay that's easy.'
Justice rolled her eyes and looked at Riley.
'It is so not easy.' She laughed quietly as she started up her laptop, 'She's going to struggle.'
'What about Alistair? He'll probably do a comic fanfiction or something.'
Justice just stared at her computer screen and replied with, 'Can we pleased not talk about Alistair?'
Riley stiffened, but nodded. She should just tell Riley about everything that's happened, but it's quite impossible when Alistair is the only thing that is stuck in her mind. His gorgeous hair, his eyes – oh his eyes. Today they were sparkling, but from what? Justice had never seen them like that.
She probably wouldn't see them like that again.
Maybe she didn't want to.
///
'Justice, would you like to read what you have written so far to the class?'
Justice went to shake her head, but then realised that Alistair was given her a look, as if to say why didn't she ask me? Justice thought about this. He was jealous, he was tying her down instead of letting her go.
