It has been two months since my father's death. He was my everything. We were so close. My mother was never much help. She used to shout at me over stupid mistakes and she never taught me anything. She doesn't care about me now either. I sat on my bed, holding a razor blade. I slowly moved the blade towards my skin and pressed it hard to my wrist. I sharply pulled the plade over my skin, creating a red horizontal line. My wrist was covered in blood. The light shining from the lamp started fading away. I fell back onto my bed.
-----
I woke up in a white room, in a white bed. It was not my room. I heard a beeping sound. It was pretty slow and calm. I felt a needle in my arm. I looked down at my arm and I did in fact see a needle. Medicene was being poured into my veins. I looked around the room and I saw a man dressed in white coming towards me.
"Your name is Amber, right?" He said and smiled at me.
"Yes. Why am I here? What happened?" I asked nervously. My voice sounded weak. As if I haven't spoken for a long time.
"You're here because you cut your veins. Your mother has entered your room and she found you on your bed, bleeding out, so she called the ambulance." He began explaining.
"How long was I in a... how long was I 'asleep' for?" I asked. I looked at the doctor. His eyes were filled with disappointment. It's like he didn't want to tell me but he had to.
"Ma'am, you were in a coma for four days. That's pretty long. You have lost a lot of blood. We had to get you back up. When your heart started beating again, the whole squad was relieved but... You didn't wake up for the first 24 hours. That didn't seem right, but we still gave you a lot of time. Your mother... She was so worried!" The doctor seemed to be happy because I was back. I guess it was pretty stupid of me to to something like that. My mother was 'worried' about me? Well that's unusual.
"Well that's new. Since when does she care about me anyway!" I yelled at the doctor. Tears rolled down my warm cheeks. My mother entered the room, but the doctor didn't notice.
"There, there, it's okay. I'm sure she always did." He comforted me but it hardly worked. He doesn't know what I know. he doesn't know about that car crash, and my so called 'friends' who are scared of me and refused to help, and he doesn't know about my mother who lives in a completely different world. He doesn't know that I have nothing left. I saw my mother walking towards us. She stood next to the doctor and looked at me like she has never done before.
"Honey, are you feeling better? I was so worried!" She said as a tear rolled down her face, leaving a black trace with the help of her cheap mascara. If it cost more, she wouldn't waste it on crying.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine..." I replied and rolled my eyes away to the other side.
"Ma'am, your daughter is feeling better. She will soon be allowed to go back home and back to school." The doctor announced.
"Arasseo... Gamsahamnida." My mother tanked the doctor and they both left the room. I was all alone again. I enjoy the presence of other people. Complete strangers. They're not scared of me because they don't know my story so it's easy to talk to them.-----
A few days later I was back at home and I was getting ready for school. I got a text from my mu who was already at work.
"Don't forget to tell the teacher why you weren't in school for so long. Love you." - Eomma
"Yeah I won't forget." - AmberI had a quick shower and I dryed my hair with a towel, I brushed my teeth, had a snack and left for school. I live pretty close to the school so the walk wasn't long, but it was quite tiring because my backpack was heavy as hell. It felt like I was carrying bricks in my bag!
I walked into the classroom. Everyone was staring at me. As I walked to my seat, I could hear people muttering something about me. I heard someone say "She's insane..." Maybe they're right? No, I don't think so. I sat down in my seat and took out my books.
"Why haven't you been in school for so long?" Mrs Myeong asked me and everyone looked at me. I gulped. I could feel cold sweat going down my spine.
"I was at the hospital." I answered nervously. She nodded and continued the lesson.
"Dear studnets, you have a new classmate. Please introduce yourself." Just then, the door opened and a handsome, tall boy walked in. His dark hair was so shiny and his eyes were glossy and deep like an ocean. He stood in front of the whole class and smiled at everyone.
"Annyeong. I am your new classmate. My name is Choi Junhong. I hope we'll get along well." He said happily and everyone said hello, except me. I was too busy writing.
"Great! Junhong? Can you please sit next to... Amber. Over there." Mrs Myeong pointed at the empty seat next to me. I noticed The new kid walking towards me with a smile.
"Annyeong." He said quietly, not to disturb the lesson.
"Annyeong. Welcome to our class." I replied politely. He smiled adn began working. The bell rang and we were all dismissed and we all went to the canteen to get our food. I sat by an empty table and ate my food quietly. I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I turned around and I saw the new kid smiling at me.
"Can I sit with you? I don't know anyone here, except you" He said and sat down before I could reply.
"Um sure, yeah. So, how do you like it here?" I asked. I tried to start a conversation. Maybe I'll have a friend for once?
"Yeah it's pretty cool here. I like it. The people are nice here." he replied quietly.
"Yeah they're alright. They can be mean sometimes. Especially Yongguk and Himchan. they're the rebels here. They rule this place better than our principal. If they pop up to you, just give them what they ask for." I warned him about the two rebels.
"Aniyo. I won't give them what they ask for. How can everyone allow them to do what they want!? That's not right!"
"We're all scared of them. that's why."
"I'll sort them out."
I looked at Junhong with my eyes wide open. He doesn't know what he's getting himself into. It's a bad Idea. They'll beat him up and he won't even have time to react. I shook my head and continued eating.-----
After school I went straight home. I heard someone's footsteps behind me. I walkeda little faster, but it was already too late. I felt someone touching my shoulder, so I turned around and I saw Junhong. I screamed, but he covered my mouth. I slapped his hand away from my face.
"What do you think you're doing! Idiot!" I yelled at him. My heart was beating fast. At first I though someone is going to attack me!
"Mianhae. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm really sorry." He apologized to me over and over again.
"Yeah whatever. Go home." I said and turned away from him and continued walking home. I head someone run behind me. In no time, I saw him again, walking beside me.
"I am going home. We must live near each other. You're not Korean, are you?" He changed the subject rather quickly.
"No, I'm not." I muttered under my breath. Why does he care anyway!
"Where are you from then? Were you raised here or somewhere else? Wait! Let me guess! America? Germany? Russia? No wait I know! England! You're English aren't you?" He got very excited and attacked me with questions.
"No you fool. I'm from Poland. I lived there for a few years, I moved to England and then I moved to Korea. Happy now?" I yelled at him again. I tried to make it clear to him that I'm annoyed but he just didn't see it.
"Poland? Where the hell is that? Oh wait! Germany attacked Poland in the second World War! Ah yeah I always wanted to go to Kraków!"We talked for a bit and we have reached my house.
"You live here? That's cool! I live next to you!" He said. He got very excited for some reason. We said goodbye and I went inside. I went to my room, did my homework and played on my phone. I recieved a text. It was eomma."Get out of the house NOW!!!" Go to your neighbour!! - Eomma
