Zara checked the mirror one more time, pressing her lips together to even the lip color before putting the lipstick down on the table.
She turned around nervously, eyeing herself every inch from her reflection to see if she look alright atleast, but got startled when Harry came through the door but stopped when his eyes fell on Zara.
She was wearing a knee length silver dress that looked like it was made just for her because it fit her perfectly, the black heels adding a nice touch. Her hair was up in an elegant bun, a few strands left loose to fall at the sides of her face.
"Wow-uh, wow, you look stunning." Harry said as he formed a slight smile, making Zara give out a small smile too.
"Really?" She asked.
"Yeah."
She nodded as she gulped nervously, her heart beating rapidly in her chest as she she could feel her palms getting all sweaty.
"You know, Harry, this whole thing? It's really important to me." She said with a chuckle.
Harry looked up to her by her sudden confession, his lips parting a bit as he stared at her.
She continued, "I've always wanted to go a long way with singing. This whole competition, if we win it, if I win with you, I might actually get known. Not only here, so many places. A lot of important people from other schools are coming to see this show, right? Just imagine if they get impressed with me, just imagine the chances I'll have to experience so many things!"
Harry didn't say anything, he just stood there quietly, staring at Zara in deep thought, making Zara give out a laugh as she shook her head,
"I shouldn't get too ahead of myself. This is just the excitement talking. All of that happens if we win first."
After a few moments of silence, Harry suddenly blurts out, "Do you want a drink to calm your nerves before the show starts?"
"Yes please." Zara said as she shot him a smile before facing her dessing table.
------------
Just like she promised Zara she would meet her before the show started, Grace quickly started making her way towards the green room, well as quickly she could in those heels that is.
Through out all the hurry, Grace felt her bump into some one, hard, almost making her fall backwards until a hand grabbed on to her before she could fall.
She opened her eyes, quickly blinking a few times before realizing the person was Zayn.
Zayn stared at her for a few seconds, taking in how good she looked in a red dress that went into a flowy detail at the knees.
He finally let go of her hand that he had been holding on to for so long, before looking away from her face.
Grace let out a breathe of relief as she gave him a warm smile, "Thankyou, Zayn."
He gave a slight nod and just as he was about to walk away, they both heard a scream come from the green room nearby, making both Grace and Zayn enchange an alarming look before running off in that direction.
Zayn opened the door quickly as Grace got in, her eyes widening as Zara had a hand over her chest, repeatedly coughing with Harry holding on to her.
"What on earth happened?!" Grace exclaimed furiously as she went over to Zara to hold her as Harry let go, a worried look all over his face.
"Harry, what happened?" Zayn said in a strong voice but Grace cut Harry off.
"Guys, Zara's not looking good, we have to get her to the school's emergency room, like right now!"
"What about the performance? There's no time left, it'll start any minute." Zayn asked hurrily.
"I'll do it." Harry said with no hesitation.
----------------Zara could hear the claps and the loud cheers even from where she was sitting, the bed of the school's emergency room.
She was staring at the ground, her feet dangling just a few feet above it.
The doctor had given her a pill, and she was okay, they said it was nothing serious.
Just an allergic reaction.
After a few minutes of endless thoughts going around her head, she looks up when she hears the door of the room open and close.
Harry walked over to her, standing before her bed. A few moments passed by until he finally asked,
"Are you okay?"
Zara looked down, her eyes glued to her lap. She didn't immediately reply, she wanted to say so much to him. So many things.
But she asked the thing that bothered her the most,
"Was it you?"
"W-what?" Harry replied quietly.
Zara shook her head as she looked him in the eye, "It was you, wasn't it?"
Harry didn't reply for a few seconds, standing there intimidated.
"Just like I expected." Zara muttered, her voice barely a whisper. "It was the drink?"
"It was the drink." He replied, not an emotion in his voice.
"How could you do this to me, Harry? This was important to me-"
"It was important to me too-"
"In what possible way?"
"Singing. Singing is important to me too, Zara." Harry said as he stared at her face but she just looked down, both her hands on either side of her clutching onto the bed sheets.
"-I just-I'm not as famous as you. I'm not known. But I want to be, I really do. And I wouldn't have had done this as a duet, but the principal forced us, you saw that. I wanted to show people what I really could do, by myself. Not along with you, you're already amazing at what you do. I didn't want people talking about, "Zara AND Harry did amazing." I wanted people to recognize me for what I do, by myself. And this was a big opportunity, what place could I have shown better? So I added a almond element to your drink before the show, it was powdered. And then..that's that. I'm sorry-"
"Don't say it."
"Zara.."
"Get out, Harry."
Harry stood still, his eye brows scrunched as guilt took over his face.
"I mean it." Zara whispered as Harry finally looked away from her face, before turning around and leaving the room.
As soon as she was sure Harry was gone, she let out a shaky breathe as the tears started to run down her cheeks. She wiped them all as she laid down on the bed and spend the next few hours crying.
