Everyone was bustling in excitement the day after the inter-school show when Zara entered the cafeteria along with Amber and Grace.
Wherever she went though, people would stop talking and look at her as if they had committed a crime. She didn't understand why, she thought she had a neutral face, how would they know if she was upset about not being able to perform?
After all, only she, Harry and her friends knew about the betrayal she received.
As she set the tray and began eating, someone shouted "Harry's performance everyone! It's being shown in the tv! It's starting!"
And a blast of music started playing, along with the host calling him on stage.
Zara's eyes were immediately glued to cafeteria tv screen. As he performed the song, the lyrics a little different, the dance steps a little different, she realized that he had been practicing this alone for a while now, as she remembered coming a bit early to rehearsals and catching him in the act.
Zara didn't know how to feel about that, her hand just clutched around the fork tighter.
She couldn't stop looking though.
His performance was looking more and more perfect. Without her in it. She thinks that maybe, it was better that way. Her not being there was better because he was an amazing performer and he deserved it without sharing it with her.
Zara took her eyes off the screen and stared down at her half empty plate of food, biting on to her lower lip as people clapped and cheered proudly around her.
That could've been her, but it wasn't.
All the hardwork, all the concentration, for nothing.
She glanced up and caught Harry's eye who was sitting on another table across the room, staring right back at her.
She shot him a look, making Harry break the stare.
What was he expecting? Forgiveness?
He'd been texting, putting notes in her locker and passing notes in classes saying he was sorry. But she just couldn't bring herself to forgive him and let the matter go;
because,
no matter how how much he deserved the performance without her shadowing him, what he did to her still wasn't right.
She actually trusted him and he put her life in danger.Sending her texts saying he didn't realize it would put her in a hospital was not going to make it okay.
Seeing Zara deep in thought, almost depressed even, so Amber decided to break her away from her thought.
"So um, Zara?"
Zara looked up, as she saw Grace and Amber starting to act excited.
"You know, there's this party that's going to happen take place in Nathan's house tonight! And apparently, the entire school is invited! Are you coming? Please tell me you're coming?" gushed Amber as she made a puppy-dog eyes at her friend.
Grace nodded along, saying "Please? It's going to be fun! I promise; like, Nathan always throws the best parties!"
Zara thought that the next day is a Saturday and Nathan does throw the best parties and..she'd really like to have some fun and get herself out of this depression that she's been in since last night she came to know about his betrayal.
So she agreed. And a grin formed on her face as her friends exclaimed in joy and hugged her.
Across the room, Harry couldn't help but admire that came upon her face before a pang of guilt hit him again. He'd make up to her no matter what was all that went around in his mind.
