The newest member

Chapter 8

I saw Wren hit the wall and collapse to the floor. Something was wrong, she was distracted, I could tell immediately. There was no point shouting, although I wanted to, to see if she was okay. She was all ready out cold. She wouldn't hear me. Above, Carla shouted my name. I swerved out of the way of something or other that clearly came from the demon and launched myself forwards.

"Sky Dragon Slayer Roar" I shouted, take a deep breath and let it all out as quickly as I could. A huge gust of white bursts out of my mouth and hits the demon full on. He roars himself, if it is a 'he', and tries to bat me out of the way. I can control myself in the air a lot easier than most but it's still hard. I reached the ground, unharmed.

The demon howled loudly and I clutched my ears. Then, to my and everyone else's horror, another roar answered it from deep inside the volcano.

"Wendy, Natsu" Erza shouted, stabbing the demon as hard as possible, and having no effect. "Go and find out what it was. If there is another demon here at all, we need to know now."

"Got it" I said. Carla lifted me up and we flew to an opening near the ceiling, Happy and Natsu following closely.

"Wait" Natsu said when our feet touched solid ground again. "Where did the actually come from? That other roar?"

I shrugged, glancing to my left to see if there was anything there. "I think it might've come from deeper into the volcano but I honestly don't know. It was ringing my ears and echoing from every direction."

"If it was higher up then we would've seen it by now" Carla folded her arms. "So I'm going to make a bet that it's lower down."

Natsu nodded "Lets go kill some demon"

"I hate to say it" Carla sighed. "But the roar was definitely louder than anything that thing below could manage. Judging by that, I'd say that it was bigger and more powerful."

I gasped "but Carla, we couldn't kill that one all six of us so how are we, just Natsu and I, expected to kill one which you're saying is bigger."

"Why does everyone always count me out" Happy complained. "I am a living creature and I'm part of this guild so I deserve to be counted."

We ignored him.

"What're you saying?" Natsu cried. "I could take any demon out by myself any day."

I hesitated and made an unsure noise in the back of my throat. "Yeah sure you could Natsu, he he" I scratched the back of my head guiltily.

He nodded approvingly. "So lets go and kill this demon" he charged off down the corridor, Happy in tow, in what seemed to be a downhill movement leaving Carla and I standing still, watching him go, me still scratching my head.

"That boy" Carla sighed disapprovingly. "His head is so big it'll fall off one of these days."

"Hey Carla, don't be so mean. He's just looking forwards to completing the job that's all" I started walking in the direction of Natsu and Happy. "I for one am. I don't like his volcano one bit and the idea of fighting demons scares me a bit"

Carla shook her head. "Then you should learn to go on better missions without idiots like him following you around."
