The newest member

Chapter 18

The demon glances our way, the scales scrunching together at the corner of its eyes. Erza changes into her Heaven's Wheel Armour, Lucy snatches a key off her ring, points it forward, shouting Scorpio and Gray creates an Ice sword, leaping forwards.

"You ready?" Wendy asks, turning to me and smiling slightly.

"I guess" I say, putting my hand out to the side and forming a demon slayer sword. "Lets go"

Wendy nods and jumps off the edge of the ledge, followed by Carla who catches her and swings her close to the demon. I step forwards, forming a portal as I go and vanish into it, re-appearing just above the demon. I swing the sword down with as much force as I can (which isn't a lot) and slash at it. Nothing happens, it doesn't even leave a mark. I land on its shoulder and frown. The demon still looks in perfect condition despite everyone throwing everything at it. Wendy and Lucy's spirit Scorpio form a spiralling column of blue and sand which hits it square in the chest. It's a big attack and I would've hoped that it could've actually done some damage, but when the smoke clears, there's nothing again. This is going to be so much harder than we thought.

From over the other side of the cavern, Erza shouts something and all of the swords circling her dive in and hit the demon. It grunts and rubs the minor scratch given. It's not much but it's something that none of us were able to inflict before hand. Natsu jumps off the wall and delivers a series of kicks and punches, all of which create a tiny mark. I guess we're doing better than we were but still, at this rate, we're all going to run out of magic power.

"O strengthen of arm to cleave the heavens!" Wendy shouts, throwing her arms forwards.

I feel a surge in my power and glance down. My entire body is glowing purple, sending a tingling feeling up my spine. I turn round to find that everyone else is slightly glowing too.

"Thanks Wendy" Natsu calls, grinning. He takes a deep breath and breathes out fast, a mass of fire coming out.

Gray lands on a ledge near the middle of the chamber and puts out his hands, creating an ice canon and firing it. Both of their attacks hit, but between them, create nothing, again.

"Damn it" Natsu says, landing next to Gray and rubbing the back of his hand along his forehead. "What is it with this guy?"

"I don't know" Gray mutters. "But what ever it is, he's going to be pretty damn hard to beat. You can still back out if you want you know."

Natsu laughs and envelops himself in fire. "In your dreams."

They leap forwards and attack. The demon gives out a shriek and swipes out a claw. It doesn't hit any of us but even from a large distance away, I feel the pressure of the air drop and am pushed back a little from the force of it.

Panicking just a bit, I form a ball of purple and black and throw it. For a second, it doesn't do anything, then a slightly smaller shriek emits from the demon.

"We've got this" Natsu shouts and Lucy cheers in agreement. "Do you know what'd be brilliant for this? A combo Celestial attack."

"Gemini can't use the keys" Lucy shouts. "And anyway, what'd we do if we were going to do that?"

Natsu thinks for a minute. "Loki and... and... Capricorn? That'd work probably."

Lucy sighs. "It probably would but we..."

"I could do it" I say without thinking. "Probably. I'm not actually sure but I might be able to."

Lucy looks shocked for a minute and then nods. "It's worth a shot. You summon Loki if you can."

Nodding, I put out a hand and form the key. "What do I say again?"

"Open, gate of the lion, Leo" Lucy says laughing.

Suddenly unsure, I say it, holding out the key. There is a small flash and then Loki appears.

"Who are you?" he says.

"She's helping me summon two spirits to help us fight this demon" Lucy says, coming to stand next to me with Capricorn.

"This may not work" Capricorn says, folding his arms. "The defence of this being is... off the scale. It's unreal."

"We've managed to scratch the surface a couple of times before" Gray says. "It can't be too hard to do it again."

"Hey Loki, long time no see" Natsu grins, holding up a hand. Loki grunts.

"Okay, go" Lucy shouts, throwing one arm forwards. Loki and Capricorn jump forwards and throw a number of attacks at the demon. With each one, I can slowly sense it getting weaker, but not quick enough to get excited about. The demon throws back it's head, bellows and spits out a flood of lava. The spirits vanish and we all slam up against the wall.

"It's useless" Wendy says, propping herself up on her elbows. "We're never going to defeat it, we're going to die." She looks terrified, tears streaming down her cheeks and trying to shield herself. From the looks of things, we've all just about got no magic power left and are all struggling to stand.

"Wendy, what's that spell that you used before at the beginning to give us all loads of magic power?" I say quietly.

Her eyes widen. "No, you can't do it. You... it won't work. We're all too low and... and... you wouldn't even be able to stand after wards."

"Well what are we going to do otherwise?"

She bites her lip and shakes her head. "No... no... no... you can't..." then she sighs. "O strengthen of arm to cleave the heavens!" I nod and stand up. "Don't kill yourself."

I nod again and throw my arms out in front of me, reciting the spell.
