We pulled up to my old house and I looked in shock. It was the exact same. "This is where I grew up." I said. Tyler smirked and placed a hand on my knee. "Wow this place is beautiful!" He replied. I thanked him and we got out of the car.
I walked up the steps, not knowing what could be inside. I was scared to see my dad sick.
I slowly opened the door and walked inside.
"Daddy, I'm home!" I said. He walked up and hugged me. "Hey baby girl!"
"Dad this is Tyler, my boyfriend."
He walked up.
"It is nice to meet you Mr. Rush. I will take very good care of your daughter I promise!" He said shaking his hand.
"And you remember Brentleigh."
"Of course who could forget Brentleigh." He said kissing her cheek. I turned around to the hallway and made my way into my old room. It was the exact same as I left it. "Oh..wow." I said tearing up. I hadn't been home in forever. I sat on my bed, and the rest of the group did as well.
"Hope, do you remember all of the sleepovers with endless nights of binge watching YouTube. And now...we are here. With the guys we were binge watching." Brentleigh asked.
I smiled. "Yes, yes I do."
We sat on the bed for hours. Just talking about the old days.
Then my mom walked in.
"He guys dinner is ready!" She said.
"Holy fuck! I am about to have a southern home-cooked meal!" Tyler screamed running into the living room. I giggled and followed.
My mom had cooked Greek chicken and rice. I am not Greek it's just that in 8th grade I won our middle school cook off and I also won the county cook off with this dish.
We gathered around the table, said the blessing, and ate.
"This food is AMAZING!" Shane said digging in.
"Ok, so mom dad. Tyler and I have something to tell you."
They stared at me. "Tyler and I are getting married." I said.
My mom, of course, hugged me and Tyler and cried. My dad just looked at us. "Tyler...who's Tyler?" He asked. My stomach sank.
"Dad, this is Tyler my boyfriend remember?" He just looked at us. "Never mind dad, it's fine just eat your dinner." I took my plate to the sink and ran back into my room.
Tyler, Brentleigh, and Shane followed.
Tyler sat beside me on my bed and I cried into his shoulder. "It's ok," he muttered.
The strongest man I ever knew. The only man I ever really knew. Barely even knew me. I immediately regretted moving to la and leaving him. Brentleigh came over and hugged me as well, and everyone kind of had a moment together.
