××××× Tim's POV ×××××

"You're really good at this, Timothy." Karen said flatly after losing in the game of chess for the third time today.

"You didn't do badly yourself. You almost won the second time." I told her calmly. We were in the news paper club room that afternoon waiting for the others.

"You really like chess huh." She observed "Is that why you look at everyone as if their chess peaces?" I locked eyes with her after this comment then I smirked.

"What ever do you mean, Karen?" I acted innocent but of course she not wrong with that.

"You don't have to hide it from me. I know that you don't see chess as a board game, you see it as a life game."Karen paused then continued smiling"It's amusing actually. In this life size chess you play, Cora is the queen and king, with you as the bishop, Seth as the knight, Kate and I as the tower while the rest of your friends are pawns. Am I correct?" Karen grinned proudly. There was a short silence before I spoke.

"Yes, you're not mistaken, I do play life like I play chess. I'm actually impressed, Karen. You really are smart. But I think calling my friends as chess pieces is a bit harsh." I grimaced at her. Life has taught me a lot since my real parents died. And one of those things is to think ahead and think clearly.

It was a week after Cora's dispute with Ron, the school jock's now a new man. After being rejected and beaten by Cora, he promised to change his ways and be a better guy now. Since the day he lost to Cora in a basketball game, he began hanging around our group of sophomores more often. That's why the kids in the elite table always give us deadly glares.

Pam is rich and powerful, so she was able to control many students like brainless zombies. Everybody's afraid of pissing the evil queen off, except for us. I and my friends are her arch nemesis so she hates us a lot. I'm sure Pamela Celt is formulating a plan to make me and my friends' life difficult this very moment.

Unfortunately for her, we are no longer the weak children we used to be. The rumor about Baron Law being trashed by Seth and I spread all around the school pretty quickly so none of Pam's minions dared to get near us for a while. Being Ron's friend is a big bonus because that means the whole basketball team's got our backs in case anything happens.

I can't believe how lucky we are this year because not only did we have the basketball team we also have the Canadian Thompson twins that ward off evil girls like Pam.

Karen and Kate are weird but there good friends simply because they're not backstabbing bitches like most of the girls in Clement high. Karen, with her fearsome homicidal psychopath appearance, scares the hell out of everyone specially Pam. While her twin Kate who looks like a perfect human sized Polly pocket doll, has a strange talent of eavesdropping so she knows everything. Now that I have many peaces to use to protect my Corazon, there's no way Pamela Celt will be able to harm us.

"Guys, something happened to Cora!"Kate said huffing when she came.

"What? What happened to her Kate, Where is she?" I asked dreaded. Kate looked at me with horror.

"The principal called her to his office. I..."Kate's expression tells me that Cora is in trouble. I dashed off to the principal's office as fast as I can with twins right behind me.

"What happened to her?" I asked. Seth looked at me calmly. He was leaning against the wall waiting in front of the principal's office. His brows frowned in confusion.

"Calm down. She's with my mom inside. The principal wanted to talk to Cora about a new basketball team for girls." Seth informed smiling.

I've been tricked. I turned around and saw Kate giggling to her self. "That's not funny, Thompson." I said irritated. Annoying sneaky brat.
