A Great Accident

A Great Accident: Part 7

"Are you sure you want to do another Q and A video?" Phil asks as he sets up his camera. Dan carefully takes a seat on the floor of Phil's bedroom.

"Yes, our fans loved the first Phil is not on Fire and they've been demanding that we do another one." Dan reminds Phil.

"Alright." Phil presses the record button and the question answering begins.

"What is with the cat whiskers?" Dan asks the first question. 

Phil stands up and begins searching his room for a marker. "I know I have a sharpie somewhere." He says and looks over to his dresser. "Ah, here we go." He grabs the marker and begins doodling the cat whiskers on his face then tosses it over to Dan.

"I can't put this on. The fumes." Dan reminds Phil as he recaps the marker. "This could harm the baby."

"Oh, riiiight." Phil nods and takes his seat on the floor again. "I guess you're going whiskerless this time."

"Do you realise that the last Q and A is how I got knocked up in the first place?" Dan asks Phil.

Phil considers it for a second. "I suppose it was. How funny is that?" Dan smiles and then reads off the next question.

At the end of the video Phil decides to add one last thing to it. "And now I think we should do a quick pregnancy update for you guys."

"Well, at this point we're at twenty-eight weeks." Dan begins. "About ten weeks ago we found out the gender of our baby."

"Should we tell them what we're having?" Phil asks.

Dan squints his eyes in thought. "Hmm. . . no, let's have them wait for the baby to born."

"Well, I guess you're all going to have to wait another ten weeks." Phil chuckles then stops recording the video.

"I guess that works." Dan says as he tries to get back up on his feet. Phil beats him and gives Dan a hand to help him up. "I'm getting too big for all of this." Dan sighs and collapses on the bed. "It's so hard to get seated on the floor, and even harder to stand."

"It's all the baby." Phil reminds Dan.

"Of course I know that." Dan spits out a little too harshly to Phil. Phil's face falls. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Phil." Dan reduces to tears as he apologizes. "I freaking hate these hormones."

"It's alright, Dan. No need to apologize." Phil assures. "It's just the baby causing your hormones to go all over the place."

"Yeah. . ." Dan says as he fixes himself into a comfier position on the bed. He wipes his eyes. "I really want this to be over."

Phil places a hand on Dan's knee. "Soon, Bear. Two more months, right?"

"Two more months." Dan repeats. 

Phil pulls Dan into a hug and rubs his back. "I love you, Bear."

Dan felt his heart flip in his chest. This is the first time he hears Phil say that to him. "I love you too." Dan smiles and rests his chin on Phil's shoulder.

Dan groans as the light from his bedroom window awakes him. "No. . ." He mumbles, covering his eyes with his hands. "Go back to sleep, Sun."

"Dan!" Diane chirps, peeking her head through her son's bedroom door. "Are you awake?"

"I guess I am." Dan mumbles as he slowly raises himself into a sitting position.

"Good, because I want you to get ready. I want to get out early for some shopping."

Dan rolls his eyes at his mum. "Do we have to?" He asks her, the annoyance obvious in his tone.

"Yes. The baby will be coming here in just a few short months and we have nothing for him." Diane tells him. "So get up, get dressed, and get downstairs." Diane leaves with a slight thud of the door behind her.

Dan rolls out of bed and sluggishly makes his way to his wardrobe and peeks inside. "I kind of don't want to without Phil. This baby is half his." Dan mumbles to himself as he rummages through his shirts, most of which he outgrew because of the pregnancy. He settles on a plain grey one and throws on a pair of paternity-fitted jeans.

He decides to text Phil real quick:

Get up and get ready for a flood of photos, my mum is taking me shopping

To: Phil <3
7:21am
For the baby. You're helping me decide

Ready for the day, Dan walks downstairs and finds his family circled around the dining table eating breakfast. "Morning, Dan." His dad greets him between bite-fulls of his eggs. 

"Do you want some?" His mum asks. "There's plenty left in the pan." She points a fork over to the pan sitting on the counter.

Dan looks over at the eggs waiting for him and his stomach rumbles with hunger. He gladly grabs a plate and fills it up with the food calling his name. 

He takes a seat with the rest of his family just as his phone vibrates, causing him to jump a little. His family looks up at him. "Dan, no phones at the breakfast table, please." His dad scolds.

"Sorry, it's Phil. Can I just read it real quick?"

Diane gives a glance over to her husband. "Just this once, Alan." She says softly, then nods back at Dan as a signal of approval.

Dan opens his phone and reads the text from Phil.

7:25am
Ok, I'm up. When are you heading out?

"Mum, when are we leaving?" Dan asks his mother as he scoops a bite of eggs into his mouth.

"It shouldn't be too long after we finish eating. Why do you ask?" Diane answers.

"Phil wanted to know. I'm bringing him along on a virtual journey to help pick out the stuff for our child." Dan replies as he texts back.

To: Phil <3
7:26am
Soon, we just have to finish eating and we'll be out. I'll text you then.

Just as he promised, Dan and Diane quickly shoveled their breakfast into their mouths, brushed their teeth, then left the house.

Dan took pictures of every item he found appealing and sent it to Phil. Phil replied to most of the texts with "aww"'s and Dan and Diane bought almost everything the two boys agreed on. The hardest decision was the crib. There were so many adorable cribs to choose from but neither one of them could choose which one they liked the most.

Hmm which one looks better with that fluffy blanket we decided on earlier? The cream coloured one

Dan closes his eyes and thinks about the new blanket waiting in the car; his and Phil's favourite one before answering.
