Beyond the river .

A promise

" I'll fix this..." I stared up at him as he gave me a small smile . He placed me down on the grass and walked over to the river. He placed his left hand down , straightened it, lifted it up slightly , he kept his index and middle finger (and his thumb) pointed while the other 2 fingers bent , he placed his hand towards the ground and moved his hand in a circular motion. Slowly the water began to moved around and around, leaving an empty hole in the lake . He lifted his arm up to the air quickly and I watched as Milly slowly floated up . He slowly moved his hand to the grass and Milly floated to the grass where he had pointed too,he was far away from me and so Milly was far away too . I sat with my legs apart from each other and my hands between my legs watching the magic happen. My tears were now dried up my I could tell my eyes were still red. He moved his hand just above Millys chest then slowly moved it upwards , her mouth opened and a bubble full of water floated just above her face. He moved his hand to the side and the water jumped back into the river and the river returned to normal. He smiled back at me and bent down to Millys side . A few seconds later Milly coughed  and started breathing again. I ran towards her and her frizzy hair that was soaking wet. I hugged her spinning her around as she laughed . I lifted her of the ground as she was so light , spinning her around as we both laughed . But then I tripped and we both came stumbling down and she fell on top of me . We both laughed and smiled at each other as Snow stood there , I could tell he was laughing but it was quiet and he hid it.

" Milly! I thought you were dead !" I hugged her once more.

" me too!" She giggled hugging me back.

" now, Mari , promise me-"

We looked at Snow to see him staring into the woods and then back at us . "Get down ! Now!" He ran towards us picking me up my my stomach and grabbing Millys hand forcing her to run but she tripped and ended up being dragged while screaming . I heard loud deep screams coming from behind me . A voice too deep to be Millys voice. I looked forward to see us all go racing into the forest thanks to Snow . Branches got thrown towards me cutting my skin like it was nothing. I could only imagine the pain that Milly was now feeling. I looked back to see Milly in tears still being dragged , but something new was there. Something- someone , was pulling her by her leg. She was screaming but no one could hear her because her voice was drowned out by the black monsters roar.

The monster was like black sticky tar that clung onto anything , it had no face but the mud-like creatures were grabbing hold of anything they could and chasing after us.

" Snow! What are they?!" I screamed at him

"Lost souls, demons? Ghost, misguided people, deaths angles ,yokai, fallen angles ? Whatever you humans call them!"

" monsters?"

" yes exactly! They eat-"

He was interrupted by Millys scream as she got flung out of Snows grip and slammed against the tree, Snow stopped facing the monsters and dropped me .

" can you stop them?"

" I would be lying if I said I couldn't but... I would also be lying if I said I could stop them now .."

" so you can't stop them? But you can just not now... Wait , what?"

I sat there like I was while Snow was fixing Milly, legs apart and hands in between my legs .

" stop them!" I screamed at him

" I can't!" He screamed back looking at me

" do something!"

" like what?!" I looked at Milly who looked in pain as the monsters crawled up to her , she was being squeezed by one of the bigger monsters holding her, he pushed her to the side to another tree so that the smaller monsters didn't get to her. She got slammed against another tree and winced in pain .

" hurry up !" I glared at him , he looked at me and smiled .

" I swear , you'll be the end of me one day ." He placed his hand on my head and messed my hair up by rubbing my head then slowly letting go leaving his fingers on them fully letting go .

"HELP!" She cried her body getting thrown age at another tree , I heard a snap but I wasn't sure if it was her back or the tree that was now slightly titled . I could see her gulp in pain and watched as tears fell down her cheeks and chocked her , if she could even breath with the stick that had now been reviled, it had been pushed into her when she got slammed age at the tree . If she could still breath I would be surprised .

Snow jumped up grabbing Milly but go scratched by one of the monsters and fell to the ground. " Snow! Get up! Y-you meant to-" I felt a push and I was lifted up of the ground.

" get out of here Mari, Milly is already gone - I can't fix her now , without a soul she can not live. Go , Milly is gone , go now so you don't end up like that too" I looked at Snow with wide eyes , I was shocked , but it quickly turned to sadness. His hand was up in the air and he flung it down . I felt sickness in my stomach and all the apples that I had eaten earlier move around. And like that I got thrown away from everything . I looked at Milly one last time who was now lifeless and being dropped to the ground, she was pail with no life and it frightened me to see her like that.

" Noo!" I screamed loudly as I got pushed backwards , my legs and arms being pushed forward by the force.

I fell backwards , my head crashing to ground with crumbled leafs and twinge getting stuck in my hair , I rolled backwards and landed on my stomach with a mouth full of dirt and sticks. , I spat the dirt out stared up at the normal forest, so many bad things had happened I wasn't sure what to do now. I whipped my tears away and ran out of the forest .

Was it selfish of me to not want to end up dead ? I really didn't want to die just yet, but it was my fault , Milly didn't want to go in I knew it .

I walked out of the forest and saw a brand new bridge in white paint crossing the river . It was magical and so different to the broken one that I crossed earlier. I crosse it taken one step back to see the forest and promised myself I would never go back into the forest . Than ran off with tears streaming down my eyes .
