Friends with benefits - Part 18
Isabel's POV
I violently and angrily shove my luggage into the back of our rental car. Mum, Dad and I have arrived in Ireland and are about to leave the airport. We are staying at Ellen's home, which is quite small because it's just she and her future husband, Glenn, living there.
My mother told me that, unfortunately, Ellen and Glenn aren't able to receive a child, because of an abortion Ellen had many years ago. I feel bad for them. Can you imagine getting pregnant when your young and then decide to get an abortion. -And suddenly when you actually want a child, you can't have one. Like you had one chance and you threw it away...
Yeah. That must suck big time.
"Honey, get in the bloody car" My inpatient and stressed out father says as he starts the engine. "Listen to you father, Isabel" My mum says rather calmly, unlike my father. I roll my eyes and get into the backseat of the car before I buckle up and we start driving.
I swear that even though I'm not a little child anymore, they still treat me like one and it can be exhausting.
-------------------------------------
We make it in one piece to Ellen and Glenn's little house in Mullingar. I step out and all my memories flash through my head. I remember it all now. Mum and Maura used to bring me and Niall here and we used to play hide and seek together. It seems like such a long time ago.
"Jane!" A high pitch female voice squeals. As I see the skinny red-haired female running out of her front door. She smiles widely and I can suddenly remember her. The first person she grabs is my mother and she hugs her tightly.
Even though we visited Mullingar many times when I grew up, I never joined my mom to visit Ellen. I always wanted to visit Niall and the rest of his family.
When Ellen finally lets go of my mother, she politely hug my father before she spots me in the corner of her eye and gasps, "Oh my gosh. Isabel is that you?" Ellen asks as she walks over to me. Her warm smile makes me feel welcome right away.
"Hi. Ellen" I say and give her a bit of an awkward hug before withdrawing with a smile. "You have grown up I see. You're a little lady now" She says and I can actually see literally tears filling up her eyes. "Congratulation on the engagement" I say to break the awkward focus away from me.
"Oh, well thank you, darling. Now come in and meet Glenn" She says and help us with our luggage. I enter the white front door and is welcomed by the groom himself. "You must be Isabel. Nice to meet you" He says warmly. I'm about to reach out for a handshake, but he pulls me in for a hug. A bear-hug to be honest.
"Nice to finally meet the Groom" I say and laugh a bit awkwardly at the end. He reach for my mother as I walk into the Hallway. The white walls are decorated in photos and there's a lot of white flowers everywhere. They have class and I quite like it.
"Isabel, You're room is upstairs and to the left." Ellen says as she points up the white wooden stairs. "Thanks" I say and carry my luggage up to my room.
I open the door and a small, classy and white bedroom meets my eyes. Even though the room is tiny, the bed is quite large and filled with pillows. I love pillows so this is a huge plus.
I put all my luggage on the floor and walk out of the room to explore a bit. If I'm going to stay here, then I at least have to know where everything is.
"Isabel, are you joining us for rehearsal-dinner this evening?" Ellen asks from the bottom of the stairs. "Of course" I say and make my way down the stairs.
-------------------------------------
Later that evening we are all dressed up in fancy clothing and are on our way to a nearby local. A thunderstorm have started but luckily we own a car. My mother is in the backseat with me and Ellen as my father is in the front seat and Glenn is driving.
My mother suddenly leans into me, and at first I think she's smelling my perfume, but then I understand that she is trying to whisper something in my ear. I lean in closer.
"Isabel, Isn't that dress rather short?" She asks and kind of widen her eyes as a warning. "Mum, I am old enough to wear what I want and I'm wearing a long dress in the wedding tomorrow." I whisper back and end my sentence with a assuring smile.
"It's just that... You know that there will be more people there?" She asks and widen her eyes like a warning yet again. "And?" I ask as I start to feel a bit annoyed. "Niall will be there" She blur out.
It's like the sky just fell down and hit me in the stomach as I can feel myself getting sick. I didn't think I would see him until tomorrow in the wedding, but I am actually seeing him tonight.
I can feel knots tying in my stomach and I get sick of the thought. I will actually rather jump out of this car in speed, rather than having dinner with that fool. I am not doing this. Absolutely not.
"-Are you ok" My mother asks again and warmly put her hand on my cheek. "No" I whisper rather loudly because of my anger.
Suddenly the car stops and I can feel the whole world crashing down. This is not what I want. "We're here" My father says and stops the car. Everyone happily unbuckles their seat-belts and get outside to open their umbrellas, but I don't. I refuse to get out of this car, even if someone payed me to get out.
"Isabel?" My mum asks, and I can see in her face that she's a bit upset with me. I quickly shake my head and cross my arms. "Are you twelve? Get out so you don't cause a scene" My mother says strictly. I realize that the only thing that is scarier than facing Niall, is when my mother is angry.
"Fine" I angrily say and get out of the car. My mother swiftly hands me a umbrella and smile at me, "It will be ok" She says and put her hand on my back.
We walk inside and meet a whole bunch of people who cheers for the happy couple. I look around for a seat, but my mother drags me along and we sit down across Maura and some people I've never seen before. I swiftly see that the only available seat left, is the one beside Maura...
Niall's POV
I can hear all the way from the bathroom that Ellen and Glenn have arrived, witch means that Isabel is here as well. I can't go out there. She will probably kill me right on the spot if she sees that I'm here and I don't want to cause a scene.
The worst part is that there isn't even a tiny window I can escape through in this bathroom, which means that I have to face her.
I know face your fears is what they say, but facing Isabel seems like a bad idea.
"Fuck. Alright" I say to myself before I get out of the bathroom. My mother stares at me for a brief moment, before she starts to focus on her dinner-plate. I walk closer and can see Isabel from behind. My heart drops and I can feel it pounding really hard.
As I walk closer and closer to my chair, I have so many mixed up feelings and thoughts that I almost feel sick. I just wait for her eyes to spot me.
Suddenly they do and all I get is a death-stare. It literally looks like she just waits for the opportunity to kill me. I uncomfortably sit down at my chair and her eyes swiftly goes down to her dinner-plate.
Both our moms keep quiet, making it even more uncomfortable.
-------------------------------------
Isable's POV
I don't feel what I expected to feel when I see him. Not even anything near it. I'm not angry at all. All I can feel is a warm feeling beating in my chest, like when you see someone close to you who you haven't seen in a while. Someone like him...
Someone you are madly in love with.
(A/N): So two parts left... Message me for next part where there will be an interaction between Niall and Isabel! - Em xx
