Chapter 15
Standing outside where they could be seen wasn’t what Mac or Dean wanted, after dropping Megan off home he followed Mac. She waited until they were inside her living room to ask. “Ok what? Now that you mention it you’ve gotten off pretty easy with this deal. I haven’t asked for anything since the first day.”
“Do you have something in mind?” he asked, cautiously.
“Not really.”
“Good because I do. I really don’t want you dating my cousin.” He thought about it more last night and this morning, a new plan formed, one that would suit his needs more.
Mackenzie laughed. “That’s really none of your business.”
“Yes it is, think about it. Say you and Jake become serious he’ll want to stay here in town to be close to you and who will be there? Me. He’ll be living at my house, you’ll come to see him at my house, have family dinners and be kissing in front of my house.”
Mac’s face grew red. “You saw that?” she hit him on the shoulder. “You perv.”
“But you see my point. I’ve thought about this and it’s a really bad idea.”
“Then stop thinking about it. Why are you thinking about it? It’s weird.” she said with a frown and a look of pure disgust.
“It is.” He spoke more to himself, his eyes distant in thought. A moment passed before he made a move, a move to answer some questions that kept coming back. Gripping her by the shoulders Dean kissed her. Not surprised she tried to pull away and nearly kicked him, when fighting didn’t work her lips responded to his, parting to welcome more. The reason he wanted to slap an impromptu kiss on her faded and the reasons he wanted to keep it going replaced them.
He slid his hands from her shoulders down to her waist and pulled her as close as possible. The mounds of her breasts laid flat against his chest. Such a small thing turned him on; the warmth of her mouth had him in a frenzy. It shouldn’t have been that easy and that scared him. Gaining back some common sense he moved back several steps.
Mac’s blue eyes were wide with surprise and a little guilt. “What the hell?!” it didn’t take long for that question to surface.
“You kissed me back.” Dean reminded her, he wasn’t the only one to blame.
“No I didn’t. It was an ill advised reaction because you caught me off guard I couldn’t push you away and you started it so it’s your fault. Why the hell did you do that? Is this some sick joke to you, you figure well Jake likes me so there must be something and you want to find out what because how could someone possibly like me?” Mac demanded, borderline yelling as she wanted to pull her own hair out. How could this have happened?
That sounded about right, he nodded. “Pretty much.”
“You bastard.” She blinked before tears could show. “I thought Megan might change you for the better but you’re still that egotistical playboy that follows his own rules and everyone else be damned. Here’s the new deal. I want you to stay the hell away from me unless it’s on the court. I won’t tell anyone about Megan because I care about her but if you so much as ever come near me again you’ll regret it.” Mac marched to the front door and swung it open. “Leave.”
Once alone the damn tears that surfaced fell free. She had been wrong, Jake hadn’t wanted to hurt her and use her; Dean did. Stupidly she thought they were making progress, they weren’t friends but they weren’t at each others throats either.
She sulked over to the couch and sat down. Touching her fingers to her lip the kiss flashed through her mind. Mac could’ve gone her whole life without that moment. It made everything different and confusing.

Dean wanted to slam the door to his bedroom shut but didn’t because Megan was taking a nap in his room. He groaned and began to pace. Only an idiot which he was would kiss Mac like that. Worse was the fact he liked it, he wanted more. She had felt so soft and feminine in his arms, warm and sweet. None of those words were supposed to describe Mackenzie Ashby but how things changed.
Dean couldn’t fool himself any longer; he didn’t want Jake dating her because he was jealous. “Oh god.” He groaned and laid back on the bed. Life was much simpler before she became a constant in his daily routine. Dean saw sides to Mac that changed who she was in his eyes and the secrets she fought to keep to herself changed that too, he felt bad for her. He felt for her; period.
