Chapter 29
“That’s it?” Alicia questioned, holding the sheet of paper that Mackenzie wrote her guest list on. “There are only two names.”
“My aunt and my best friend but I haven’t told Kira yet so I’m not sure if she can make it. My Aunt said she’d be here, you can add a plus one for her because she always has a date. There three people.” Mac said with fake enthusiasm only Dean noticed.
He stood back against the cabinets as Mac sat at the table with his mother. “Mom its fine, we want a small wedding anyway.”
“It is being done in a short amount of time but I alerted the whole family and close friends. It’s not everyday you get married. Mac is there anything else you want to add to the plans?”
“No ma’am.” She forced another smile out.
“I have to get going to pick up Megan.” Dean said, making a grab for his keys.
“No!” Mac quickly stood. “Let me go, you stay and visit with your mom, you have a lot to catch up on right?” she took his keys.
“Ok.” Dean agreed after seeing the cry for help along her eyes, the need to get away and breathe. “You remember where it is?”
“Yeah Megan showed me a whole bunch of papers from her school and the address was on them. I got it memorized.”
“Let me walk you out. I’ll be back mom.”
“Make sure to keep your pants on.” Alicia said to their parting backs.
“Great now your mom thinks we’re horny teenagers.” Mac said when they were alone in the hall. “At least the planning is over, right?”
Dean smiled at the optimistic voice she used, her big blue eyes were hopeful, her mouth twisted in a nervous fear. He thought she looked adorable. “I don’t think there’s anything else she needs from us but she will be around until it’s over.” He took her hand as they walked to the elevator. “What no kiss goodbye?”
Mackenzie rolled her eyes and let out a scoff. “I should beat you with a large stick for what you did in the room. If you care about what I feel at all then stop bringing up the past and trying to force me into forgiving you because I’m not. I have to go.”
He let her go and kept his eyes on her face until the elevator doors slide closed. He didn’t believe she didn’t have feelings for him because Dean knew she did, he felt it when they touched, she wouldn’t be conflicted if apart of her didn’t want him back. He decided he would honor her wish and wouldn’t bring the past up anymore because it didn’t matter. What they needed now was to focus on the future and for his future Dean wanted her.

Mac thought back to her meeting with Mrs. Chandler. She hoped she didn’t come across as rude but really what could she have added to the wedding plans? The woman planned everything before she even arrived; the only thing in Mac’s control was the dress and Dean had picked that. She was doing this all for Megan and Dean and the details came from his mother, none of it was hers. It wasn’t as if she wanted to plan the damn thing, it was a sham marriage anyway but when she and Dean first started discussing it and the plans were their own it was easier to swallow the changes to come.
Her mind then drifted to what happened before Mrs. Chandler and her damn invitation list. She needed to find a way to get him to stop touching her. One stroke with his long gentle fingers and her mind became mush.
Mac shook her head and put all thoughts away as she pulled up to Megan’s pre-school. She got out of the car and went in search for the little munchkin. A dose of Megan was exactly what she needed to feel better, that kid was like magic.
