Iris P.O.V

Golden beams of light shone through the window, making the room glow. My eyelids slowly drifted open, the feeling of a soft breeze caress my cheeks. My mood would be quite peaceful if it wasn't for my deafening alarm next to my head. Annoyance spread throughout my body as I picked up  my hand, slamming it against the top of the alarm.

"Thank god for that" I muttered out loud as the blaring in my ears stopped. Great, another day with my 'lovely' classmates, the thought forced a large sigh to escape my lips. Glancing over the the clock on my beside table, it read 7:30 am.

As I forced my tired body out of bed, a cold draft instantly hit me, sending shivers to travel up my spine. The melody of rustling leaves echo in my eardrums, slightly calming me down. I trudged over to my closet, located in the corner of my room, with my tangled locks gently hitting my exposed arms. Opening the closet door, I grabbed the first large hoodie and sweatpants I could see, and dived straight into the bathroom before anyone else could use it, making sure to lock it.

Living in an orphanage is hard in the morning, you've got to learn many survival skills, like how to be first to use anything, and never being late for food.

After getting changed and brushing my pearly whites, I unlocked the door and stepped out the bathroom. Almost instantly I felt a gust of wind, and heard the door lock again. Walking back into my room, I strolled over to my very messy desk. Picking up a brush, I started to run it through my magenta tresses, a dull pain shooting through my head, every time a tangle was found. Once my hair was tangle free, I pulled it into a messy bun, then hiding it and my face with the hood.

I took a quick peek at my clock, seeing what time I had left till I had to set off. 8:00am. Had 20 minutes before I had to leave. Another sigh escaped me, distress filling my mind. I don't want to deal with them.

Walking down the ageing stairs, my golden eyes scanned the room. Children and teens were running, half still in their pyjamas or a tooth brush hanging out their mouth. The youngsters, used to the commotion, were playing together, happiness radiating off them. They're not old enough to go to school enough yet, while all the others were 15 or below, therefore making me the oldest in the orphanage. But here ,that meant nothing. I was invisible. The only people who took notice was Ms Shiplly and-

"Riri!! LOOK! THE TOOTH FAIRY CAME!" A young brown haired boy screamed, while running towards me, a coin in hand.

This adorable champ.

A warm smile coated my face when I saw him, noticing his lively brown eyes gleam in excitement, and the toothy grin that covered his face, except one front tooth was missing.

I knelt down to his height.

"Did she now, Ezekiel?" I asked, now knowing my Ms Shiplly was up so late last night as well.

"Yes!! I knew she was real! Some of the older kids were saying she wasn't" The little brunette exclaimed, pouting slightly when thinking about that experience.

My large smile faltered slightly when I heard that, why do they have to try to ruin another child's fantasy?

"Don't listen to them, You've got proof! I'll get them to believe later. How about you start getting ready for the day squirt?" I said, ruffling his already messy, tangled hair.

"Okay! Bye Riri, have a nice day at school!"

As I saw the back of his small frame vanish, my smile disappeared. A flat line replaced it as frustration coursed through my blood. Not because of Ezekiel, but at all the people trying to kill his dreams, and all the idiots I'm going to deal with today.

Glancing over to the clock, panic surged through me, replacing the frustration. It read 8:21am.  Running into the kitchen - pushing past many bodies - I grabbed the first piece of food I could see, that being an apple, and bolted out the door. But, when I got out the door a huge sense of dread filled me, and Ms Shiplly's voice filled my head.

"Everything will change soon my dear" What did you mean Ms Shiplly?

---------

"Please stop!" I screamed to the blonde girl above me, slowly tilting her plate, knowing what she was about do to but not caring who heard me. All my dignity was quickly disappearing, but so was my patience.

The loud laugher of all my peers echoed in my ears. I don't want to hurt them, no matter how much they mocked me. I can't reveal my secret.

"Hmpf, too late loser" She said.

It was too late, much too late.

To my dismay, a loud splat was heard, and a cold, slimy texture hit me.

And I finally lost it.
