Chapter Two: Cold Castle Captive
The last hour of my independence was spent glancing out the window and telling myself things that I wasn't going to do or put up with. I'm not going to forget who I am or let this experience change me. I'm not going to put up with whatever crap Alexander things he can pull with me. I'm not going to lose my friends or lose contact with my family. I think that's going to be a lot easier said than done.
I was looking down at my engagement ring, turning and twisting it on my finger carefully before straightening it perfectly.
"They're here." I looked up and my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach at the sound of my father's words. I pushed off the wall and with my body tingling with nervousness and loss we all made our way downstairs. My father opened the door to seen the same man from last night.
"We are here to retrieve..."He didn't get far before he was cut off.
"We are fully aware of why you're here." My father said roughly and jerked his head in the direction of the stairs. "Her room is upstairs, the door is open." He told him and stepped out of the way of the door. A few men invaded our home again and lugged all of my bags and such out into a carriage.
I started saying my goodbyes and hugging everyone, ignoring their tears so I wouldn't cry too. That got even more difficult when I caught my father teary eyed. He is a big man and not one to cry about anything. I've only seen him do it one other time and it's one of the worst things for a daughter to watch.
"If he lays a finger on you..." Hm, I actually saw that one coming. I suppose my mentality is a little more normal now.
"I know dad." I said and kissed his cheek. I moved on to my mom who's water works had subsided for now. We said our I love you's and then she told me to be good, which I found amusing.
"Are you ready Miss Lillian?" The man asked me. Was I ready? Well, no, I was not ready, but I was never going to be.
"Yes." I lied and took a step away from my family and friends. They followed me out the door and I shot them one last, forced smile before being helped into the carriage. I didn't look back as we slowly took off down the dusty road. I choked back tears and blinked back the excess water on my eyes.
"Are you alright Miss Lillian?" The still nameless man asked from the seat across from me.
