Dave sat up in his bed once again and let out a heavy sigh of sadness. He shoved his hands to his face and began rubbing at his eyes until it seemed like he was teleported to a new dimension filled with darkened swirls that clouded his vision.

'How the hell am I supposed to get on good terms with him if I keep fucking everything up?!' He swung his legs over the side of his bed and made his way to the bathroom to get ready. Except this time Dave was pondering on what he should do to fix things before they get bad.

He just kept thinking of things he knew would end up horribly.

And then he realized what he had to do.

Dave had to remove himself completely from Karkat's life.

'If this kid has any chance of surviving his new school, it has to be without me.'

Dave suddenly felt stricken with sadness and guilt. He couldn't understand why he wanted Karkat to know him.

But he couldn't forget why he had to do this.

Once he finished getting ready in the same outfit that he's picked out for three days now, but only to him, he walked out of his room and down the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and both of his brothers looked at him, not suspicious of time travel or any travel of the sort.

They both nodded towards him in the cool guy hello they all had down pat. They had this technique mastered before they could walk. Strider men are, and always will be, romance masters.

But still, Dave didn't care for impressing anyone, he never attempted to get any person's attention. He never felt the need to. Which is why Karkat confused him to no extent.

Dave nodded back at the two and grabbed a pop-tart before stepping out of the apartment and making his way down his building.

Dave turned a corner that lead to the stairs and spotted a short, temperamental, vulgar mouthed boy step out of an apartment and walk towards the elevator.

Dave gasped silently and hid back behind the corner he just crossed. This was going to kill Dave, trying to avoid Karkat.

Karkat looked towards Dave's direction but saw nothing so he continued on his way. Dave suddenly felt sorrow when Karkat brushed him off like that.

He waited a good minute until he knew Karkat wouldn't be standing there and he then continued to make his way down the building until he got outside and spotted the small boy standing at the bus stop and watching something with a blank face.

Dave looked over to where Karkat was watching and saw the bus slowly pull up, Dave mentally cursed at himself then proceeded to run across the street without looking and almost got hit by a car.

The driver slammed on the brakes and only managed to scare the shit out of Dave. In reaction, Dave slammed his hand on the hood of the car and the driver retaliated by honking his horn.

This caught Karkat's attention and Dave looked over just in time to see Karkat blushing slightly before shaking his head slightly and step onto the bus.

Dave bit his tongue in frustration and flipped the driver off before running to the bus and getting on just in time.

He looked around at the seats on the bus and almost couldn't find an open one until he saw out of the corner of his eye, someone putting their book bag on their lap, freeing up the isle seat for Dave. He smirked slightly, just happy someone was nice then looked up to see it was none other than Vantas.

Dave stiffened up as he slowly lowered himself into the seat, trying not to get Karkat hurt again.

"Hey are you okay, I saw you almost get turned into a pancake out there." Dave heard Karkat say.
